Do eggplants like high heat or not?
I've read conflicting information about whether eggplants like the heat. Some sources say that it really likes it hot. Other sources say that if the eggplant is in 90+ degree weather it should be shaded. I also thought it liked a lot of direct sunlight. I have it with the other container plants and they get the most sun of anyone in the garden. Since it is in a container I can move it, but it would be a big pain to do so. It has been dropping blossoms and I just read that it could be caused by lack of pollination. I can hand pollinate, but need to know if the plant should stay put or move to a shadier location.

I have my eggplant in an extremely sunny location and it's about 90 degrees here in NC. I think it is probably the pollination, because mine seems to be doing alright other than the occasional bugbite. Hope it helps!

Eggplant is a cold-sensitive vegetable that requires a long warm season for best production. The warmer the better for eggplants. Just give them ample moisture and keep the moisture consistent.
I don't know about blossom drop, personally. But, if I were to venture a guess I would say it is one of two things. 1- Temps above 90 like tomatoes. 2- Male vs female flowers like cucumbers. Cucumbers drop the first blossoms rather quickly, but that doesn't necessarily affect pollination.

BBG is correct, eggplant loves heat and LOTS OF WATER. Here is some information about your aubergine. Good luck!!!

Thanks! I am glad I won't have to move my plant, that would have been quite the challenge. I will try hand pollinating for the next set of blooms.

I had trouble with pollination on my eggplant last year. Took a cotton swab and swirled it around a bit inside the flower and next thing I knew, I had eggplants growing. Yummy!

I just flick the fully open flowers like my tomato flowers and it worked for me on my asian eggplant. In fact it has been the most productive plant in my garden so far. They are sooooooo pretty too. Next spring I'm planting at least 3. Full sun, and hot but like BBG and camprn said water, water, water, and more water.jymarino wrote:Thanks!
