Garden pests!!!!!!!!!!
I have 2 plants and was getting some fruit. Went to harvest them and the red ones were being eaten by tiny black bugs. Totally ruined the fruit.
Plants are directly in the dirt. Any clue what these bugs are and how I prevent them.
Also, the #^*%$&*%&*$ Japanese Beetles are gorging themselves on my sweet basil. I've sprayed it with bug killer from HD, but they keep coming back. They have also completely DESTROYED the purple bush in front of my house--the leaves look like Swiss cheese on a bad day--more holes than you would believe. What to do about Japanese Beetles?!?!?!

Re: Garden pests!!!!!!!!!!
This may be better in "pests." I know I know nothing about bugs....yet. Wish I could be of better help.

What kind of plants/fruit are we talking about here? How tiny are the bugs? Flea beetle size or larger?
I've not had a problem in my SFG with Japanese beetles, but I know folks who have successfully used those lure type traps. YOu might look into that.

Re: Garden pests!!!!!!!!!!
@Pattipan, my mistake--I originally titled the thread Strawberries, but added the info on my basil and then changed the title. Sorry about that.
They are very small--round and black. Smaller than ants--not specks, but very small. I need to try to get a photo of them.
I didn't realize there is a "pest" section or I would have posted there.
Anyhow, that's my story.

I sounds like fleas beetles. I've never had them on my strawberries, but they make buckshot holes in my eggplant, radish and arugula leaves. I would do a Google search for "flea beetles on strawberries" and see what you come up with because the things I would use on leaves I definitely would not use on strawberries. On second thought...you could always plant an eggplant or two nearby for trap crops!
As far as where to post this, don't feel you need to apologize. It's hard sometimes to get to know all the sections of this forum. If you want it moved you could PM Middlemamma our Forum Administrator and ask if she would move it.
