You didn't fib, it IS a truckload.

I'm waiting for mine to have at least half in brown stalks among the green before I pull them.

Absolutely great harvest! Congratulations. What variety is it? Is it a good roasting kind? Is this your first year growing garlic? How do you cure and store it? Inquiring minds want to know. PapaVino and I are true garlic heads and always interested in new varieties and recipes. We eat lots of garlic....hey, is that why we always have a pew in church to ourselves on Sunday?

This was just a plain old white garlic. They look just like the ones in the grocery store. I don't know if it is big enough to roast but it will be perfect for "Chicken with 128 Cloves of Garlic" (or however many cloves we put in!)
I'm planning on braiding it. I've never done it before so I'll check the YouTube for a video.
This is my first year growing garlic. Well, first year growing much of anything really!

I had to hid the laptop before my grandson saw your picture, his truck is currently out in my garden and my garlic is not ready yet. I braided mine last year, not much to it, just braid and hang. Let us know if you find a video on youtube.

To dry garlic, just lay them on the ground in a shady spot for about 2 weeks.

In July, stop watering them and allow the tops to go dry, but not completely. When there are about 3 sets of green leaves and 3 sets of dry leaves, pull.

I planted organic garlic I bought at the farmer's market last fall. They seem to be doing well so far.

They are the tall greenery left lower corner. I only planted 4 squares with 4 cloves each and this is one of them.

Quiltbea, thanks for the info. Our main trouble here is finding a shady dry place to cure the garlic. In previous rainy summer like this one appears to be, I've had to resort to the basement--not my favorite. Have you ever braided your garlic? I've tried, but my braids end up looking lopsided. But the cloves broken off the braids taste good anyway. Smile

Sorry, I haven't braided mine. I think I saw a video on youtube on how to braid it before but I've not done it.

Quiltbea, thanks for the idea on garlic braiding. I pulled this up on YouTube, it looks like something even I could do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7Xyj82oO4g Maybe my braid won't look so much like it'd been in a windstorm.
