Nepeta - walker's low

Post  Tbites on 6/13/2011, 8:56 pm

Hello,

Hadn't come around this section yet. Anyone here grow Nepeta in containers.... more specifically walker's low (seems to be referred to as mussiini or faasenni.. spelling?) All I ever read is that it likes well drained soil... no mention of the soil mix. I've killed 2 so far this spring and my third seems on its way to a slow death too. I've tried Mel's Mix, a gritty mix of bark chips, granite chips and Turface and now the third is in a mix of sand, perlite and top soil.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Mine is pre SFG for me). I have it in poor soil. That's all I can tell you. Maybe it doesn't like to be treated nicely?

My catnip is Nepeta cataria (regular old catnip, I guess). It is in MM as a border plant in my pepper box. No worries with it so far.

I grow mine in a sfg box outside of my fenced-in area. The deer and all other scavenging free-loaders leave it alone. It has started to take over though! I moved some to another bed where it also is flourishing. I have it growing with elecampane, valerian, and motherwort. They are all happy together.
