I went to Dollarama tonight and picked up a few things for the garden. I just thought I'd show 'em off here.

Latest Dollar Store Buys Dollar19

A little seat so I don't always have to be bent over or on my knees

Latest Dollar Store Buys Dollar18

A replacement light for the one I got last year at Dollarama

Latest Dollar Store Buys Dollar17

Two Hangers for topsy turvy planting. These are much nicer and longer than some you find elsewhere at higher prices

Latest Dollar Store Buys Dollar13

A really tall tomato spiral

A garden angel stake to keep everything safe.

I also saw some really cute metal pails that were painted really pretty colours and had metal flower cutouts attached to them. I think I might just go back and get those. Oh and there were these really cute lights that some woman and I were fooling around with too. You clam 'em on and blow 'em out like a candle. Really cute.

It sucks that it's not a real dollar store anymoe. I spent 13$ on those few things.

We don't have a Dollar Tree. The catalogue looks great.

I think Dollar Tree is US only. Dollarama is a Canadian store. Smile

Nice finds Cynergist! I have 8 of those tall tomato spirals. A steal at $2 each!

There are a few dollar stores across the bridge in Massena. The one I'm most familiar with is Yankee One Dollar. But I haven't been in ages. I don't know what their gardening section is like.

Have you used the spirals before, Blackrose? This is my first time using one.

There isn't much for a dollar at the dollar store anymore. I think they should change the name to toonierama

No I haven't. This is only my second year with tomatoes. Last year I had one in a Topsy Turvy. Terrible! I'm looking forward to seeing how they hold up. My husband bought some clamps and clamped them to the side of the box for extra stability. The ground where we put them is quite soft and I was worried about them falling over. Better safe than sorry! Smile

My topsy turvies didn't turn out last year either. But I just used dirt from the garden which was too heavy and sandy. This year I'm gonna use potting soil for the hanging stuff.

I love those swirly tomato stakes......We have a Dollar Tree - a Dollar General - and a Family Dollar around my area; but, I haven't seen these in any of them!?!?

Please let us know how they work! I love stuff like that.

Hi Zingercan - I saw some swirly tomato spirals at our Ace Hardware - I think the extra tall ones were $5 though (not $2 - bummer). I'm going to try stringing this year after reading about it on this forum... we'll see... Smile

Cute buckets, herbs or even a few lettuces to keep near the door, just snag a leaf or two to put on your sandwiches.

Nice post Synergist

I have picked up a few good things in my local dollar store including plant label stacks, at a fraction of the cost in the regular stores.

The one that got away though is clear plastic plant covers for early spring when you are trying to protect your garden plants. I have seen similar covers at Lee Valley for 3x the price. Unfortunately I didn't buy when I saw them, so they were all gone when I went back. Live and learn. Next year.

The tomatoes seem to train pretty good to the spirals.

Harmerd I think I know the ones you mean. I was thinking on getting some of those and using my planter boxes lined with styrofoam as make shift cold frames next year.

What do you think?

I bought some of those domes and used them to protect my artichokes in the early spring when it still got really cold at night. They worked well.
