I planted my first SFG this year in College Station, TX Smile. So far, I think I have harvested more pests than harvest, but I am having a great time and loving it! I love the forum so far too, it's great!

Nice that the challanges are not getting you down. This is supposed to be fun and I have to say, I enjoy my garden.

Those pests are a pain in the tooshie. Hope the veggies are growing well.

Were you ever able to identify the tiny yellow insects on your tomato and squash blossoms? I did have yellow aphids, along with green and brown ones last year. Those bad boys can transmit viruses and I had some damage to one artichoke plant, but it recovered.

Here's to a great harvest. bounce

Welcome - would you perhaps be an Aggie? The bugs have really started to show up in the DFW area now...

I was an Aggie, class of 2005 Very Happy Now I am a nurse here at a local hospital and my hubby is a teacher- the bugs are AWFUL! We have had cutworms, hornworms, aphids, and now blight on my tomatoes. It's my first time though so we are figuring out!

Gig'em!!

My grandfather graduated with an aeronautical engineering degree somewhere near '48. He loved his Aggies. So, by default, I do, too. It doesn't hurt that my mother was born in Bryan. I'm a Kansas Jayhawk, so I think your basketball team has a great coach. Wink

However, the Teasippers dominate our family and most of them reside in Austin....where they can stay....lol.

Give'em Hell!!!

Oh, and welcome aboard.

Howdy from College Station, Texas 396615 Howdy from College Station, Texas 396615 Howdy from College Station, Texas 396615 As I shared on another post some time back, my 2 cents on Aggie jokes were that the reason they were started is every one else is jealous. A cousin of mine went to A&M some years back, I really wanted to go to Shreveport to see them play in the Independance Bowl this past year, as it was probably the last time I would be close enough to see them play since they changed everything up. Our town is also home of TAMUT (Texas A&M U, Texarkana) so plenty of Aggies here too. I'm not a native Texan, I'm one of those who for as long as I can remember wanted to live here, so when I was 17 our family said pretty much the same thing Davy Crocket said before he left his state of KY. Mom & Dad (& my brother) have moved on and now live in his state of KY, but I'm staying put, I'm proud to be living in a state that is home to 2 of the finest learning institutions in the world. Yes, I'm a horns fan too, but then I love cows, they fascinate me, don't ask.

Unfortunately the price we pay for such a wonderful growing season, is bugs straight out of a Sci-Fi movie (as Boffer put it). Squash bugs seem to be rampent down here. Look around on the pest forum, there are some GREAT tips for helping with them. Check into the regional forums too, but you don't have to stick with just one, we all hop around and visit with each other. Let us know how we can help!
