The people at starbucks were very kind and gave me their grounds for the day. now how much coffee grounds is too much for compost? can i sprinkle some lightly over my MM mix now? when do you know you've gone compost crazy?
My next stop is a very large breakfast diner to see if i can finagle their egg shells. hahahahaha!!!!!!

Very nice! I've got about 20 gallons of coffee grounds in my compost pile. It smells great. Just scored some chicken manure with pine shavings. Added that with leaves and kitchen waste and boy is it steaming. Also found a source for free cow manure today - wish I had a truck.

Howdy Cienfuegos:
When we first started composting I figured that coffee grounds would be on the acid side of the acid/base scale where 7 is considered neither acidic nor base. It turns out that used coffee grounds are almost a perfect netural and are considered a "green" in the compost pile along with manures, fresh grass clippings, etc. So go ahead and use the coffee grounds as you would any other "green".

thanks for the tips. i'm gonna keep going to collect more every chance i get. i currently have manure only compost bin going, (primarily cow and horse with some donkey poop). A kitchen waste and yard trimmings pile (at least a cubic yard). And i'm thinking of doing a worm compost bin. i'm addicted.

I need to get some buckets for the Mexican restaurant and coffee shack next door to my salon. My sister already asked if I could have the coffee grounds from the coffee shack, and they said it wouldn't be a problem. Now I just have to learn how to Habla the Espanol to ask the guys in the back hallway for their veggie scraps!

Will that be for the compost pile or to feed your new babies?!

It could be a 2-fer. I could feed it to the girls and then use the results for Madame Heap!

Okay I'm excited!!! My cousins works at her Moms friends restaurant (an hour and a half from me) I called this morning, will you collect coffee grounds for me? Of course she says! I'm so excited!
I will be visiting there this weekend and on Tues we go to a Bob Seger concert in New Orleans. Our youth revisited this week.
