Has anyone...
Has anyone built the trellis according to the materials and design in the book? Any tips/thoughts etc.?

Re: Has anyone...
I built one trellis exactly like the book. It turned out great. The only problem I had was putting the rebar rods in straight. It took a few times to get it to not look cattywompus. (I don't know how to spell that . I am trying to grow peas on it, although they are not getting the message on that one.
My trellis is 5 feet tall which I think is probably too short for many things. I would love to hear feedback on trellis height. I need to make a few more in the next couple of weeks. I image some of the squash and cukes need more room than 5 ft.

I purchased everything to construct the trellis, but the rebar supports are 2 ft instead of 18 inches. How far into the ground did you drive the rebars?

I got the 2' rebar and pounded them in about a foot deep. Seems just fine to me!

????
What is the height of your trellis? Is 5' enough? I've already had my pipe cut...also how difficult was it to attach the trellis netting? Any suggestions there?

Re: Has anyone...
I made mine 6' tall to get a little more vertical space but to where I can still reach the top. We'll see how it works out!
Took longer to tie the netting on than it did to cut and assemble everything haha. On the first one I tried to use the tiny strings on the net, and then there were a few feet left on one side that I cut off and cut the bottom too. On my second one I got wise and centered the net and cut it so the strings were longer and easier to tie. Not hard, just finicky.

I made mine 5 feet tall because I am under 5 feet tall and the plants will just have to follow my instructions! I don't dare put anything high enough that I would need a step stool or ladder, because, well, my nickname at work these days is Grace.....
PS - I have 18" rebar because that was all Menard's had in stock at the time, and I have yet to attach the netting because it proved to be too tempting to the kitties for an indoor project!

Re: Has anyone...
I'm using 36" or 48" rebar this year. I have to go into the ground at least a foot or until I hit a rock. I had the experience of using the 2 foot rebar and had the electrical tubing not stay where I wanted. The electrical tubing will be cut to 6 feet this time. As for the net, I going to attach it to the tubing using zip ties. I hate trying to tie it on with the little strings. At the end of the season, I can snip the zip ties and have the net in great shape. If your near a Harbour Freight, they have great prices on zip ties.
I haven't tried this but one sqft'er would save their can lids, punch a hole in them and slip them over the rebar. The electrical tubbing would then sit on the can lid and not sink into the ground.
This is so much fun trying all these different ways of creating a garden that produces so much great stuff. No matter what you do, the veggies grow.
Enjoy the creation of your garden. You can truly say it is yours.
I hear the seed growing into veggies. The garden calls again.
Enjoy the day,
Bruce
