yippppeee!

oh im so happy to hear that is a pepper.....i wasnt sure this plant was even going to make it.....before it went out side i kept it in the house for awhile....it was sooo pretty when i bought it from our local nursery.......one morning when i got up i found that our cats thought it was mighty tasty! they chewed a ton off of the edges of all its leaves..... Mad .....so its an ugly thing now....yet....its got a baby pepper on the way..... Very Happy his wounds have dried up on the side of the leaves and he is filling out with fresh new green leaves....

hugs
rose....who loves her boy on what she can harvest from him instead of what he looks like...... Laughing

Rose, mine looked like that about a week ago Now they look like this:

They are about 1/4 normal size so far. My poor plant was severly beat up in the wind we had about a month ago, so it also looks sort of ragged.

It's finally gotten warm enough to put the 4 inch tall poblano pepper plants into the garden. I should have put them in 3 weeks ago under cloches, but 10 days of cool rain foiled that plan.

2011 Peppers! Wha'cha growin'?! - Page 3 Empty Acupulco Pepper?

Post  kjenkins82 5/30/2011, 12:17 pm

Does anyone know anything about this pepper?

2011 Peppers! Wha'cha growin'?! - Page 3 Acupul10

I was at Whole Foods yesterday and saw it sitting out front and couldn't resist. There was no insert, just a sticker on the side that said "Acupulco pepper". Curious about how big/what color the peppers should be at harvest time and what the flavor is. I couldn't find much on the internet. Any info would be appreciated!

Here's a link to a pepper variety info page. It has Acapulco listed as the first one under Sweet Bell Hybrids. It shows it to be an early, very hardy, very thick-walled pepper that is the "D" shape listed above the info list - the shape of wax peppers. Hope this helps!

PS - I got my 5 pepper plants in the ground this morning!

I have also read and learned by hand that your sweet peppers will make your hot peppers dull if planted together. I had 6 types of peppers in a self-watering earth-box last year and they all pretty much tasted the same (with sweet jalapenos to boot! argh!)

Darn! That's what I was afraid of. I can't get my peppers that far apart, but I'll try to shuffle something... Sad

Rats, I hadn't heard that, either, about them affecting the taste. All of the cross pollination info I have read focused on what the seeds would produce the next year. Only my serranos are in the box with the sweets, and I have one plant isolated for seed saving, so I will have those if the flavor of the ones in with the sweets are dull. If they are dull, they will go in with the mess that becomes hot sauce/wing sauce and no one will ever know. Laughing

I'm starting small this year - a hot banana and a bell pepper plant. I too am concerned about hearing that the two might affect each other, I've got them in the same box right next to each other. Well, it won't be the end of the world if they're not perfect. . .

Post  walshevak 7/10/2011, 7:19 am

Just talked to my son yesterday and he reports 25 peppers on the habenaro plant and ample on the jalapenos and anaheims. The cayenes are producing yellow and red peppers. They are all in pots of MM. The bell and orange mini bell which are in a bed gave up 2 peppers each and are not doing as well. Think the sun may be too hot. The pots were moved to a spot with afternoon shade.
FYI, the tomatos in the bed with the bells are also suffering from the heat and the potted tomatos moved to a bit of shade are doing much better.

I am growing a poblano/ancho pepper for the first time. Do I leave it on the vine to dry or cut it off? I don't want to halt production.

Here's my first pepper of the year. BBG, if your reading this, don't get jealous now.
2011 Peppers! Wha'cha growin'?! - Page 3 100_0019

It's a Yummy Bell next to a cherry tomato so you can see how big it is, lol. The ones that are still on the plant and have not turned orange are kind of looking like jalepeno's in shape. I don't think I'll plant them again.

I've also planted anahiem's and red and yellow bell. They cost so much in the winter, I hope to get enough to freeze some.

GG, I tried to take a picture of what my next Yummy Bell's on that plant look like. The humidity is so high, I couldn't get a very good picture. I doubt any thing is really wrong with your yummy bell's, they are just different. Give them a week or two and see if they turn orange. Here's the next peppers on that plant after that little, Barbie Doll size of a pepper.

Personally, I would rather have some thing more substantial than the first one. I don't know what to do with it. It's just setting on the counter, looking cute.

Our humidity is so high it is hard to get a good pic as well. I would just like to know what kind of pepper I am growing there, because it is NOT a Golden Bell! We harvested the first one a few days ago and put it in some breakfast burritos (along with some cilantro and green onions from the garden) and it had a bit of a zing to it. I am thinking maybe a Banana Pepper or a mild Hungarian Wax, but it is NOT a bell!

No doubt your right after looking at yours. Probably one of those things where the plant stick/identifier came out and the clerk just stuck in what ever was laying next to it.

I think you are right - and it will be interesting to find out what the rest of my peppers are. I got them all at the same place, 1 each of 5 different varieties. 2 of the others are starting to set fruit, and they actually look like little 1/4" bells, but will they be the colors the tags say? And the Poblano, will it really be? Stay tuned.....

I leave mine on the bush and hope they mature enough to turn red. I will surely let them keep growing on the bush until I want to use one, they turn red or frost is on the way. I dehydrated mine off the vine, cut in slices, ready to go in soups and sauces. Very Happy

I've got a few more pepper babies today.

One of my dwarf Feherozon peppers in a pot. Thank you Elliphant. Both plants have peppers and lots more blossoms.
2011 Peppers! Wha'cha growin'?! - Page 3 07-17-11
One of my Tangerine Dream peppers also has babies at the very top. Again, thank you to Elliphant for the seeds this year. They are doing well.

I'm grateful for the seed swap we had on this forum. I hope to have lots of pepper and tomato seeds saved for the swap this year.

I have blossoms on other varieties, but the hot peppers aren't doing as well. I hope for my son's sake I get some hot peppers, too, this year.
