Easy way to mix Mel's mix Empty Easy way to mix Mel's mix

I found an easy way to mix Mel's mix. Yesterday we mixed enough for two 4 x 4 6 inch deep SFG's, and I used a drill to mix it all up with, and it was very easy and worked excellent.
I have a video of me mixing some for you to see.
I used a 5 gallon bucket to measure with, it will hold around 1 cubic foot.
I mixed it in the wheel barrow, but you could use a large plastic container if you don't have a wheel barrow.

dude - great idea!

i had been toying with idea of renting a concrete hopper but i have a drill and a paint mixer blade in basement. . . so that would be free vs $25 rental fee. ..

hmm. .. .

i need to get the rest of my materials together so i can expand my garden. I'm itching to get moving!

and also, HI!!! was wondering when I'd see you on again - i really enjoy your posts. you're most interesting - great gardens and insights to boot!

Beautiful garden! That looks a lot easier than doing it on a tarp!

Thanks everyone, I hope the idea helps out. The drill attachment is for drilling holes in the ground to plant flower bulbs, you can find it in the garden area, it works great for digging holes too. I'm sure the paint mixer attachment would work great too.

The large metal tub is what we use to mix a large amount of Mel's mix in, the drill works the same on a large amount. We already had the metal tub, we use it for several things. It would make a good container to grow in if it had drainage holes, some people use them for water gardens too.

Question - did this method stir up a lot of dust?

Thanks for posting the idea.

The mix of compost was damp and moist, but the vermiculite and peat moss was dry when I mixed them all together, there wasn't any dust from mixing it, the compost sorta made it all moist as it mixed in with the other.

I've seen the comercials for those garden augers before, but never thought one would be worthwhile until now. That's cool.
