Maca question

Post  WardinWake on 2/1/2011, 6:28 pm

Howdy Fellow Gardeners.

Tonight I ordered Maca seed and wonder if anyone has grown/eaten this veggie/herb.
There is info on Google about it in powder form and that it is the next "great thing" to cure what ailes you. Bountiful Gardens sells the seed and this is their take on it.

"Maca, yellow - Legendary vitality-enhancing plant of the Incas, renowned for its super nutrition and as an aphrodisiac, and fertillty enhancer. This strain does not require high elevations, and thrives in regular garden conditions. Related to radishes, maca sprouts and grows quickly making clusters of firm roots. Sow late summer".

I don't know about things that claim to be "fertillty enhancers" but it is also claimed to be a "super food" in some of the Google sites I visited and is classed by some in the same family with cabbage, broccoli and the like. I suppose it can be eaten raw like most root crops and added to salads as something different to eat for salad nuts such as myself. What you guys think?

God Bless, Ward and Mary.

I can't say that I'm familiar with it at all, so I googled it because the "enhancement" remark, and read this.

But all joking aside, it sounds interesting and looks interesting. Looks like a rutabaga just "dirtier" looking. Can't wait to find out how it works out for you.
