Let me introduce myself
Hi, I am Bernadina from Toronto and soon South Florida will be home
as well. Not a snowbird mind you, but rather a woman on a mission.
I do charitable work for migrant farm families in Florida in honour of
my son Danu who was killed one year ago. It is thanks to Danu that I met Mel and the magic of SFG. I hope to be in Florida in a couple of weeks time
and I will begin the first garden on my daughter-in-law's balcony.
Once I sense I have sufficient experience, I will offer my services to the
migrant farm community at The Pines.
We have forgotten how to feed ourselves. Until we learn to feed ourselves
and each other, we will remain blind to Creations vision of peace.

Re: Let me introduce myself
to the SFG forum! Congratulations on your discovery of SFG! There is a lot of information to be found here on the forum by stumbling through past threads or using the search feature. Let us know how your progress is with your garden this winter and if you learn anything fabulous from the migrant farmers we would love to hear it.

Welcome Bernadina:
Mary and I send our condolences on the loss of your son. Our prayer today will include your family.
We have met a number of migrant farm familes in the local area and to a T all were wonderful and hard working friendly folks.
Welcome to the SFG family and forum.
God Bless, Ward and Mary.

Re: Let me introduce myself
Migrant farm families in Virginia tend to move from farm to farm harvesting whatever crop is ready. There is a large orchard in VA with a migrant worker camp that includes dormatories, a community kitchen, bathrooms and showers that are used during the harvest season. The children go to school and the adults work.

Migrant farm families are families that travel harvesting crops as the seasons progress through out the U.S. They may be in the deep south picking produce in the winter and working in the northern areas in the summer. There have been migrants following the crops for many, many years. It is hard work and can be the lowest per hour paid work to be found anywhere. Many times the workers are paid on a per box picked basis so the migrant family may have more then one in the family picking crops to increase the income of the total family.
God Bless, Ward and Mary.

Welcome
Welcome, Bernadina.
I would also like to add my condolences for the loss of your son. What a wonderful way to honor him.
I'm in agreement that we MUST learn to feed ourselves and pass this on to the future generations.
I'm so thankful that I found this site. I've learned so much here.
