I picked up 8 large garbage bags of Starbucks used coffee grounds at one of their big stores in Newport News, VA. They gave me a sticker that they use on their smaller give away bags that state the used grounds are considered to be a "green compost additive" and the PH is 6.9.

"Green Compost" is great in a compost pile when mixed in with browns such as leaves, etc. In the, "ALL NEW Square Foot Gardening" book starting about page 92 Mel talks about composting.

God Bless, Ward.

Absolutely! I've been doing this for years at Starbucks and it's awesome! They will give me as much as I can carry. It goes right into the compost bin.

Only small issue is the espresso 'coins' are pretty solid and don't break up as easliy as I'd expect. I have found them fully intact after being in the compost pile for months. So now, I do a little dance on the garbage bag before I open it to try and break up the coins.

You can't beat the price!

I have been using used coffee grounds in the garden for years, in the compost and as a mulch. I am fortunate that I have a friend who is a coffee roaster/ shop owner.
By the way, earthworms LOVE coffee grounds!! Starbucks Compost additive Herz

You may want to check in with the Starbucks employees to find when they usually have a lot of coffee grounds. My local Starbucks has someone who seems to go in every morning right before me!

They call it the "Grounds to Gardens" program. My Starbucks has been out every time I've gone in to get some. So last year I began collecting grounds from work. I don't drink coffee, so I don't have my own grounds at home. I keep a glad cookie container in my car and bring home several every week - sometimes more sometimes less depending on the time of year.
