Boffer...I've been meaning to ask you this. Had to search for the pics first.

Where do you get these steel frames?

And what is this you are using as a grid?

I make them from whatever scrap steel I find cheap. (I can weld)

The grid was made from cut-offs of 3/8 rod from a fencing project. 6-12 inch pieces welded together end-to-end. It was silly of me; string would have worked just fine. But if you like the look, they make 3/8 re-bar.

I shoulda guessed you made them yourself! My hub's a woodworker and doesn't have the tools for welding. But I do really like the looks of that black grid!

I have been using twine and eye-screws, which I do love for its flexibility. However, this summer I ended up replacing most of it. It was not the weather or sun rot -- it was the robins and catbirds! I looked out at my garden one morning and saw a robin pulling strands out of it, its beak was so full it looked like it had whiskers! Another time I saw a catbird yanking at the twine until it broke one end. It was rather comical, watching that bird try to take off with my twine and the other end was still attached! It did not give up until it got its prize though. I've tried to get video, but they never seem to steal the twine when I have my camera.

That's funny, Patti, Mel should add it to his list of reasons that he doesn't like string.

I'll be slowly converting to nylon mason's string. I tried it this summer, and I don't see any down sides for me.
