Cats don't like lemon :)
I read that today and thought I'd share, since I remember reading that several people had trouble with cats in their gardens. I don't know if it will work for anything else, like squirrels or chipmunks, but I figured it was worth sharing

Or bananas. Every time I hold a banana up to Ed's nose, he makes the effort to sniff it, and then recoils in horror like I'm attempting to poison him.
Of course, this cat also likes to sniff Pepsi...

I'm not quite certain that cats don't like bananas!
When I was in grade school, we had a cat named Pixie (16 lbs.) He was a true feline omnivore. One food he found particularly enjoyable was green-tipped bananas! He also enjoyed korn kurls, fruit jello, marshmallows, and Heinz 57 kosher dill pickles.
One day, we couldn't find the rascal anywhere. Finally, I opened the refrigerator door; there was Pixie, shivering next to a bowl of fruit jello. He'd opened the fridge and gone after his favorite dessert.
Like people, I suppose cats' tastes vary--just as do our different approaches to SFG.

@donna, that is hilarious! I thought that only happened in a Tom & Jerry cartoon! I love it!

Re: Cats don't like lemon :)
Apparently cats don't like orange peels either. We had problems with a stray or possibly someone's outdoor cat pooping in several spots in our yard, one of them near the garden. We put ripped up orange peels in each of the cats "spots" and they definitely worked. Luckily my wife loves oranges so I get a constant supply. However, if I were to run out it would be a different story of course. Although then it would give me a good excuse to test out lemon peels I guess. Here's a helpful article on putting orange peels to work in the garden: http://www.gardenandpatiohomeguide.com/using-orange-peels-in-the-garden/

Interesting about orange peels. I found last fall that cats don't like coffee grounds, either. I obtain a lot of grounds from Starbucks, so I just scatter them among the plants and the neighborhood cats haven't gone in those areas since.
