I planted what I thought was a bell pepper, and found out it was an Anaheim pepper to the north of some tomatoes on March 26th. It was ravaged by snails, shaded by tomatoes and the top broke off. I managed to get 2 peppers about 6 weeks ago. I left it where it was because I don't need the space yet.

I have since cut back the tomatoes some and the other items in its row are now gone. Surprisingly it has doubled in height, has one pepper on it and many flowers. I almost pulled it up a number of times. Wow. Nice end of summer surprise. Give these things half a chance and they go crazy.

On a down note, it looks like it is aphid season here. Meps.

And - I saw a grasshopper on my yellow beans - it was the same shade as a mature yellow bean! I was so shocked I left it alone.

Chopper, I absolutely have a thing about grasshoppers and have had to get brave and take a real its my garden or them attitude with them ! I've gotton to the point where if I see them usually in the morn, I knock them off with my hose and then step on them with my garden clogs. I have seen several praying mantis and am greatful for them but the grasshoppers do so much damage I don't give them a chance. I really don't like to harm anything espcially if it is outside I figure its in its own territory but not if it is going to threaten my garden. I use Safer insecticidal soap on the aphids.

I was in such awe that it had adapted to the color of the beans I didn't use my first normal reaction of chasing it down and killing it! But, they do creep me out too.
