my potatoes are growing mushrooms - help please
I was just getting prepared to add a new layer to my potato tower. The boxes are 2' x 2' and the boxes are made of 4" wide and 6" wide. This was to be my 6th and final layer. Until today, everything looked great. I noticed some fine white and grey mushrooms growing out of the straw on the top of one of my beds. I lifted one of the boxes on a different bed, near the bottom to peak in, and saw the same mushrooms growing there. So these guys are on the top of the bed, and well into the body of the bed. The bed with the mushrooms on the top, had a yellowing leaf, when I pulled it, it came out very easy and was alittle slimey where it used to be attached top the main stem.
What can I do??
Should I add some soil to my mix?
Should I pry the sections of the tower open a little to get some air circulation?
Have my dreams of potatoes gone up in a mushroom cloud?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Re: my potatoes are growing mushrooms - help please
My guess is the mushroom spore was on the straw you are using. Cut back on the water a bit and see if that helps. This is my best advice, but not necessarily "the fix". Give it a try and see what happens. Check out this link.

Thanks,
I was thinking that the spores must have been in the straw for the mushrooms to be so deep in the bed.
Thanks for the link. I had once found the first mushroom listed on the page, M.
caninus.
I had a very old dog and when I found a batch of these things I thought he, the dog, was hemeraging when he poo'd. That's certainly what it smelled like. They have only turned up one more time in the past 6 years. Luckily these are not the problem this time.
Thanks for your response
