Hello from Southern Illinois!
Long time gardener who purchased the first SFG book years ago. Practiced the original technique for awhile then let other interests take over. Now that I am mostly retired, I am serious about gardening again, and have returned to my first love - SFG

and from Northern California. Many of us have a similar story. We'd love to see pics of your setup.

Welcome from SW Ohio, Ted! You'll find a wealth of helpful people and helpful information on these forums. Don't hesitate to use the Search function to find threads on subjects you're interested in. Keep us posted on your garden beds as they progress. We love pictures here.
What part of southern Illinois are you located? I spent a little over 6 years on a mini-farm near Sparta, and we had the best growing season and soil there - well, except for the spring-time tornadoes. In addition to having a commercial bee keeping operation, we lived self-sufficiently on our little mini-farm, producing our own milk, eggs, meat, vegetables, and fruit. Of course, that was when I was 40 years younger, too! LOL

Re: Hello from Southern Illinois!
Hi, Ted. Welcome to the Forum from Central California! Have you read All New Square Foot Gardening, 1st, 2nd or the newest 3rd Edition? Mel changed SFG from his original design. Raised beds, no dirt, 3' wide isles, etc. Worth checking out as you are now a gardener, again. I started SFG in 2013 after reading the 2nd Edition. This photo is of the new 3rd Edition.
