Lemon Balm
I'm in love. Went to the local college plant sale, yesterday. Picked up lemon balm, just to be supportive. Forgot to water it. This morning it was a little wimpy, so when I watered the plant, I also wet down its leaves. WOW! The fragrance was intoxicating! It smells like lemon pie, lemon pudding, lemon cookies. Oh, my. I'm off to discover what wonders I can perform with this awesome herb.
FYI, it doesn't have spider mites. The way the sun is reflecting off the leaves, it looks bad. After I saw the pic, I went running out to check. It's perfectly healthy.

Re: Lemon Balm
I LOVE lemon balm!!! I had some on the deck & it seeded itself below the deck. Now I have this nice big bunch. It DOES spread... It's a member of the mint family & we all know how invasive that can be.
Great medicinal for anxiety, etc.

Lemon Balm Planting?
I got a free sample of seeds of this stuff. Can I plant it in my square foot garden or will is spread and takeover? I'm pretty new to all this stuff, but I have heard that some herbs will takeover the garden...
Thanks!
Thanks!

I'd start it out in a container until it gets established. After that, you could take cuttings and start more wherever you want. IMHO, it's not a "prime space" candidate for the sfg, but that's just me. I'm kind of a maverick around here. Please take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Lemon Balm, aka Balm Mint, is a very aggressive spreading mint plant which grows up to 5' tall. Not a good candidate for the SFG.

Re: Lemon Balm
I agree. I WANT it to take over the area where it seeded itself. But I know I'll have to trim it consistently & keep an eye on the spread.
Also, mrcmb99, the seeds tend to be difficult to germinate. DOABLE, but difficult. (Not as bad as stevia!)
