Hi! Newbie from Texas.
Hi! I am brand new to SFG and have been learning a lot from this forum already.
I am in San Antonio, TX; zone 8b and building my first SFG - 2 3x3 table top beds. Strawberry plants should arrive some time next week.
One big question for me is how large to make the drainage holes. Mel says 1/4 inch in his book but they look a little small to me.
Purchased all my products for Mel's Mix and plan on mixing today! So excited.

Re: Hi! Newbie from Texas.
Hi Jessica, Welcome to the Forum from California! All of my beds are raised off the ground and most of those are Table Tops. I have one hole in the center of each square and one in each of the 4 corners. I agree that 1/4" is a good size. I started out with 3/4" and quickly learned that was way too big.

Jessica! Glad you are excited about your new adventure! Can’t wait to hear about your dreams and plans, what do you like to eat? Us northerners live vicariously through all you guys who can grow in the winter, so post often. We are looking forward to seeing your progress!
I would advise reading All New Square Foot Garden by Mel Bartholomew. Your library should have it or be able to get it. The book has so much of his insight, tips, theory. Just a great intro read. I own it, and use it regularly!
