Record low temps coming! Likely December-like temps in southern Vermont on Thursday or around there!

Same here. Sun helped us out. Had to mow, got a bit chilly as I was finishing!

Woke up this morning to see a good layer of frost on the roofs of the houses.

Freeze warning for tonight here in SW Ohio. Official end of summer!

Minus 3 Celsius here last night and cold today. There were some ice pellets and sleet yesterday.

We are a long ways south of you, and had the same temp this morning - 26°F. The only things left in the gardens are the cool weather vegetables - Kale, Swiss Chard, and Brussels Sprouts.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Sunny, very warm out of the wind when sat in the car , not too bad out side in " Tee " shirt & jeans either till well after 15:00 hrs when it became sweater time .
That lawn I re did just over a fortnight ago has started showing zillions of half inch ( 12.5 mm ) blades of new quality lawn grass .
Due to it chucking it down in stair rods of rain for several hours a week or so ago there may be more than just a few bald patches where the grass seed got blasted out the soil and washed into small depression elsewhere on the lawn bed.

OG I've still got carrots, parsnips, kale, bunching onions, leeks, and lettuce in my SFG. Hoping they will survive the cold weather.OhioGardener wrote:trolleydriver wrote:Minus 3 Celsius here last night and cold today. There were some ice pellets and sleet yesterday.

Today is a rather fresh & cool with a light over cast sky that's thin enough for the sun's warmth to penetrate and keep the green house warm .
Definitely jumper & wind proof jacket if your out & about because of the wind chill as it feel close to freezing .

The Ottawa weather forecast is for 1 to 2 inches of snow plus ice pellets on the weekend. Ouch!

Nor'easter here at the moment. Maybe I'll finally get some leaves to mow up tomorrow.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
The Dark-eyed Juncos returned today, which is never a good sign! They are harbingers of snow to come as they migrate south in beginning of winter.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Not good about the Juncoes...they are winter only birds here...I have not seen them. But I will! I hate the loss of DST....

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
I have developed some plans to construct 6 new 2 x 8 beds which will be under the drip line of the tree. They will not be table tops but the bottom of the beds will be raised up about 12 inches from the ground. So I just have to find the time and energy to build the beds. They will be replacing a few of the beds that developed the Southern Blight.
I have three 3 x 8 beds that do have to be dug out every other year. But these three beds are also ones that had the Southern Blight. I have been planting corn (not bothered by Southern Blight) in these beds for the last few years but they are about falling down. They were built of pine in 2012 so they have just about fulfilled their useful life.
