Hello from Butler County, Pa

I've been a member here for awhile but I don't think I ever posted...just did a LOT of reading.
I'm a farm-girl that used to love to bale hay but hated weeding the garden. LOL
But the older I get, the more I really miss that garden....
Spring has finally arrived here so I'm itching to get a box built and put
something/anything in it---just to say I was able to play in the dirt again!

glad you\'re here Debbie!  Glad you stepped into the light.  Wink
You could always try just one box and see how you like it...but be forwarned...it's a little addicting.

Hi Debbie,  Welcome to the Forum from California! glad you\'re here I agree with prior comments - start small (one or 2 4' x 4' beds, and read All New Square Foot Gardening.  The bed may not contain any dirt but you will find the rich Mel's Mix fun to play it. It is addicting! Wink

thanks for all the greetings!

yes, I do indeed spin fleece into yarn.  It's great fun!
(As much as I love to garden, I do kinda stink at it...I try... but my success
rate isn't so great.
However, my spinning and knitting brings me great joy!)

Hi!!!cheers  So glad you are here!

So what are your plans, Debbie?  What do you like to eat?  Sounds like you have gardenend before...

Super excited to hear about your plans.  What do you love to eat?

I am interested, why did you lurk for so long before “coming out”?  We really want people to be here, posting, because honestly we all learn constantly from each other!!!

Hi Scorpio,
I've been lurking mostly because I honestly do stink at gardening...I figured that I
"should" have something productive to add before opening my mouth.  But after all
these years, maybe if I actually post/ask questions I'll do better.

Oh, and I adore fresh cukes! Hubby loves maters.

Well no problem, we love questions, too.  Have you read Mel’s books?  All New Square Foot Gardening is a very helpful guide.

Hi Debbie and welcome ...If you have problems with getting vermiculite, there is a place in Marion Center, PA. where it can be ordered from at the best price I have found anywhere. A little bit of a drive for you, however if you're any thing like me, I would do the drive in order to get what I want...I had to call and order it in advance and only took a week.. here is a link for them   http://homefarmsupply.com/   I use the super course grade.

Post  ispinwool 5/19/2018, 1:05 pm

Sure I have a copy and have read it...and reread...and reread....and of course all the reading
here on the forum threads...
I guess what it comes down to is that our yard is blessed with a lot of shade
but the parts that happen to get a lot of sun, are smack dab in the middle
of the yard.  Hubby likes the simplicity of just plain mowing.

So I pretty much have to shuffle around pots, buckets and my Grow Box to
where ever I can find some sun....and keep stuff out of the yard.

I have a nice little area blocked off with big rocks; I had some
lavender and a rose and space for a tomato plant or two in there--then
somehow my neighbor's Morning Glories came over and invaded in
record time affraid .  I'm currently trying to reclaim that area.

Welcome, fellow lurker ispinwool! glad you\'re here  I, too, have lurked around, reading the forum for quite a while.

Apologies for the belated welcome, another reason I lurked for so long is that my availability to post sort of comes in waves, much like tending my garden. Looking forward to details on your gardening journey!

Well....I tried to post a picture of my one
spectacular (ha-ha) tomato
flower and my sprouted cucumbers but
I was not successful. There's definitely a trick
to it.
I'm just so happy that , even though I'm so rusty at all of this, I have stuff growing!

I had a little trouble figuring it out, too. Try setting that drop-down box to "800 px width (for forums)" before you upload them.
