The reason for the difference in eggplant is last year, I had seeds for shooting star eggplant and patio baby eggplant. I didn't have seed for fairytale. I tried wintersowing last year and it did not work. But I found a fairytale transplant at a local nursery so I bought it. They didn't have any this year that I saw (but I checked rather late), and from seed I used what I already had

Things coming along nicely I think. Away way better than last year so far. All my broccoli has heads forming, and I got my first zucchini flower! Strangely enough, it's a female, and the next biggest one is also female. Hopefully a close enough neighbor has a zucchini that can act as a gentleman caller for my flowers. Hitching a ride on a bee of course.

Harvested some beet greens and put then in a protein shake. Was pleasantly surprised with how mild the flavor was. Was closer to spinach than chard to me. Might be because it's white beets. Anyway, here are pictures from last night

Your garden is going strong! I had the same weird thing happen, both my zucchini and crookneck squashes had female flowers first. Love the "gentleman caller" reference  Razz

It is looking lovely!

How is the eggplant?  I am very interested in how your varieties do this year.

The patio baby is showing the first signs of flower buds now. Nothing I saw on the shooting stars yet. It should also be noted that mine were grown from seed and well as discussed earlier in the thread my seedlings were nutrient starved for a few weeks. They were quite small when I said to heck with it an planted them in the garden.

My boss last year planted 3 pepper plants in a large pot at work, and it did really well. So I did the same this year, one with peppers and one with black beauty eggplant. Those were from purchased transplants. I already have peppers forming in them and the eggplants are MASSIVE (I think I should have just planted 1 in the pot haha), but no flowers yet.

Real quick update. Will hopefully have for a better update soon.
Got the drip irragation system setup lay Friday. First in time for our heart wave. Here are some pictures from then.

Harvested our first broccoli last week!

And here are the few photos I took his morning. Of special interest to Turan as she was interested in my eggplants. Patio baby is loaded with flowers, only 1 flower per shooting stars thus far. To be fair, I had some cutworm damage that took me a while to identify and I think the shooting stars suffered more than the patio baby.

I love the purple flowers of eggplants. So pretty set against the dark green of the leaves.

Nice drip system you have there. I like the shut off valves. Nice planning.

Your garden is looking really nice.
Thanks for the eggplant update.  I hope you get clusters like those flowers hint at.
