Re: Fourth Year SFG in Canada
The Canada Crookneck Squash and the Golden Zucchini are on their way. As well it looks like I have been able to save the Tromboncino Squash plant that was badly damaged (no photo). Some of the plants are loving the heat wave (currently 34C or 93F).

You folks made a believer outta me last year when it comes to Tromboncino Squash. I think I'll go look for some seeds and plant one in the house. By the time it's big enough to go outside, we should be finished with this endless move and I should be able to get back to gardening.

It was the Canada Crookneck Squash that sanderson and I grew last year. This is my first ever Tromboncino Squash plant.countrynaturals wrote:TD wrote:it looks like I have been able to save the Tromboncino Squash plant that was badly dameged

Re: Fourth Year SFG in Canada
Harvested our first golden zucchini today. Sliced it in half lengthwise, scooped out the seeds/innards, mixed what was removed with sausage meat, basil, garlic scapes butter, cheese and bread crumbs. Put the mix into the zucchini halves. Put tomato sauce and grated cheese on top. Baked in the oven. Yummy. The zucchini, basil and scapes all came from the SFG.

Re: Fourth Year SFG in Canada
They survived the damage?? Great looking yellow squash. It looks like I may get 2 YS more this year. Fingers crossed.
Re: Fourth Year SFG in Canada
There was one tromboncino plant and one (of several) Canada crookneck plant that were severely damaged. Both were barely attached by a thread to the roots. I buried a few inches of the stem above the damage in the MM. The trombocino has come roaring back. The Canada crookneck still looks like it will not survive.sanderson wrote:They survived the damage?? Great looking yellow squash. It looks like I may get 2 YS more this year. Fingers crossed.
Sanderson, do you prune your CC plants? Wondering if I should remove secondary stems.

Harvested a few snow peas and sugar snap peas. They usually do not make it to the house cause I like to eat them when I am working in the garden.

Re: Fourth Year SFG in Canada
Yesterday I discovered and destroyed a squash bug and eggs I found under leaves. Today I found three more which I destroyed as well as more eggs. Three of the bugs were on Canada Crookneck Squash plants in the SFG and one on a White Scallop Squash plant on a straw bale. Not sure I will be able to win this battle.

Re: Fourth Year SFG in Canada
Thanks yolos. I'll have to give that a try. I have been using duct tape to pick them off the plants and then squish them. I also use duct tape to take the eggs off the leaves.yolos wrote:Have you tried dish washing soap.trolleydriver wrote:Yesterday I discovered and destroyed a squash bug and eggs I found under leaves. YEE-HAH! I found my trombincino seeds. This is our last week of chaos before the big move. Fingers crossed that next week I'll be able to start a few seeds in the new house.countrynaturals wrote:I got my seeds from CapeCodess, but I don't have any left. Now I'm Tromboncinoless! Re: Fourth Year SFG in Canada
I would think so but I have never tried it. They often mention dish washing soap or Dr Bronners for many applications.sanderson wrote:Glad you found the seeds, CN.
Yolos, would Dr. Bronner's work the same?

I remember the other two episodes, but I don't recall seeing his visit to 3M in London. Good thing it's close to Red's hometown of Hamilton.

Tried that recently and did not see any. The neighbour has squash plants so maybe they live there and visit my garden.yolos wrote:Spray water on the middle of the squash and see if any bugs crawl up to get out of the water. ??????????trolleydriver wrote:There has to be adult squash bugs in my garden still.
