OMG, those adorable baby geese!  Single parenthood is hard...

QB, that looks great!

CC, not sure, is there any sign of life in your blueberries?  Like is the stem green if you crack it?  If so, I think I might go hard and prune the crap out of them so they don't spend too much energy figuring out where their branches are etc....

I found a nice surprise at the grocery store this morning.  They had some tomato plants and they were nice and healthy-looking.  I picked out a larger Patio Tomato that was almost $7 but I thought well worth it.  I got home and checked and they only charged me $3.99, the cost of the smaller ones they had.  Too late to go back since I didn't know til I got home.
New England June 2017 - Page 2 06-09-10
This is Patio Tomato, my bargain.  I had one large pot left that I stuck thyme and lettuce in but I have transplanted those to the shallower pot and put dear Patio in the larger one now.

New England June 2017 - Page 2 06-09-11
Look at the difference in size from the left one, Patio, and my 2 Better Bush to its right.  I hope I get some maters pretty quick.  I even bought a cheap-o electric toothbrush from $Tree to tickle the stems when the blossoms arrive.

New England June 2017 - Page 2 06-09-12
Above are all my tomato plants, looking healthy and green.  I couldn't be happier.

Post  hammock gal 6/12/2017, 8:38 am

Hi folks! After joining last spring, I've been absent due to an eventful year. I lost one of my cats of 12 years to kidney disease. I got a dog! And now my other cat, also 12 yo, is in heart failure, and on four different meds, but hanging in there. So my focus has been on the critters for a while.

But I was determined that this year would be my first fully committed year to my SFG. I bought some plants, but also started some from seed. Then we had a cold, wet, crappy spring here in NE, so everything was really slow to get started. But finally, everything is in, tomatoes, peppers, cukes, zucchini,  sugar snaps, two kinds of basil, cilantro, and much to my surprise, look what I found yesterday, when I was watering the little guys. I swear this pepper wasn't there the day before! So I have hope for a good garden season this year.

Something's already been digging in the garden bed. I know there are chipmunks, a neighbor's cat, and some bunnies wandering in the back yard. So I put some crushed red pepper all around the perimeter of the bed, and so far, so good. Keeping my fingers crossed. Wishing you all an abundant garden season! Very Happy New England June 2017 - Page 2 Tbolt13

happy hi
Nice pepper surprise, Hammock gal! I don't even have my peppers planted out yet. We've only had one other day over 70 here besides today. It's just too darn cold for mine.

I'm so sorry about your kitties. Sad It's hard to lose our fur babies, especially when they are sick.

A new puppy, eh? Would love to see a photo. I don't know if we had them when you were last here but we now have SFG Pet threads - 1 for dogs and 1 for cats. And there may be an iguana one or some such, or maybe it was a guinea pig, can't remember. thinking

Anyway, welcome back. More photos please?

Such crazy weather, huh? We had a short heat wave in May, then back to chilly again. Now we have a few days in the 90s again, but cooler later this week. This is too hot too soon. I wish you some warmth for your peppers. It's hard when we have such a short growing season as is, and then the weather doesn't cooperate, on top of that. Thank you for your kind words about the loss of my cat last fall. I will go to the pet section and post some pics there.

I don't know how many of you use You-tube gardening and homesteading channels in your daily life but I do, even tho I am now a container gardener.

I learned about a home-made Tomato Food mixture from those that I readily believe so if you want to learn more about how to get better, healthier, tastier tomatoes from your plants, please check into my blog site listed at the end of this post.  I wrote out the recipe and some of their tips given me by folks I readily trust.

Check it out.

Just finished planting out the last of my veggie starts - 5 cukes, 5 peppers, 2 ground cherries.  Even tho it's only 64 degrees out and windy as heck, at least it's cloudy with a chance of rain.

C'mon rain!

She was disturbed by the fire trucks that soon arrived to drain their hoses and flush their pumpers so I don't know if there are any eggs in the hole.  She up and wandered off further down the hedgerow to get away from the noise and commotion of all those trucks coming in.

Scorpio, I know what you mean about snappers.  We are all concerned about the geese babies.  I hear she devastated the clan last year.  They went from a dozen, to 8 then to zero.  This year the 7 original are doing well and big enuf now to try out their wings but I hear the 2nd momma has only 1 chick left.

I didn't have to water yesterday.  We got T-storms about supper time.  In fact, earlier, the sun was shining bright and the rains were coming down on the reservoir in buckets.

Luckily here, in the western part of CT, they're not so bad. But the eastern part of the state got hit hard. On the news yesterday, they were interviewing a woman who said that when you walk under the trees, they're so loaded with caterpillars that if it's quiet, you can hear them chewing, and of course, with all that chewing comes pooping, and she said with all of them pooping it sounds like rain!!! Shocked

She said some people had their property commercially sprayed, and that helped, but that most people couldn't afford that, and their trees were bare. It's sad, this is a bad year for those critters.

It's slow going here in NE. I envy those of you who are eating from your gardens already. But at least there's some progress. The pepper is getting a tiny bit bigger, but so far, it's the only one. Here are a couple of cuke flowers. There are flowers on the tomatoes, I didn't get pics of them. So far, everything looks healthy. It's just that things are going so slooooooowly. Sad Someone eat a tomato for me! hungry
