This evening we enjoyed the first Sauteed Kale for dinner. It was served up with a fresh salad of Black Simpson Seeded lettuce with Cherry Radishes and green onions. Nice to start having garden fresh vegetables again!

Just polished off the last of the parsnips I grew. Had a nice 3 bean salad that included freshly shelled Favas from the garden. The bunching onions, beets, and tree kale in the fridge reserved for a future a meal. The neighbor's horses dined on the last of my carrots- they were a bit too "woody" for my taste, but the horses sure liked them.

What are you eating from your garden today? - Page 38 Empty Re: What are you eating from your garden today?

Post  plantoid on 5/17/2019, 5:30 am

Yesterday Thursday 16 may

Home made veg soup using :-
Four small leaves from my perennial kale , three small leaves from a cabbage that has run to seed , five six inch long green onion tops that are going to seed , two large sprigs of parsley that's about to run to seed & five 2 inch long tips of spearmint . Added two cricket ball sixed brown onions  , two small potatoes & a medium shop purchased carrot & two sticks of fine chopped celery.

Every thing was cut up into small pieces & then dumped in the electric pressure cooker with a dessert spoon of virgin olive oil and browned /sweated for six minutes for 30 min , adding teaspoon of Polish seasoning salt ,  1/4 cup of home pressure canned tomato mush , three rashers of finely cut upcured  bacon a pint of home made pressure canned beef stock & a half teaspoon of ground black pepper topped it up to three litres of liquid with boiling water then pressure cooked it for a 30 min automatic  programme ..

It turned out well I had two soup bowls of it .. I 'm looking forward to some more this lunch time.

Love it when spring is in full swing and we start enjoying fresh salads every evening, without buying produce from the local market. Leaf lettuce, bunching onions, radishes (cherry & Daikon), beet greens, Rainbow Chard, and Kale. The taste is so great compared to store bought produce.

Sweet tasting Curly Kale. It is growing so fast now that we are harvesting it every 3 or 4 days. It was great sauteed in olive oil, garlic, and lemon juice.

My all-time favorite, easiest, most versatile (kale chips, anyone?) most productive (plants produce for a whole year and grow into small trees), hardiest, (survives our triple-digit summers Shocked ). If I could only grow one crop, it would be curly kale. I love you

I was all excited to say a cucumber in a salad. But, then I see Yolos' photo of tomato and cucumber salad. For those who have lettuce growing, you are lucky to have it in June. My winter lettuce bolted over 2 months ago.

OG, the Rainbow Swiss chard looks delightful.
