Re: Heat wave and shade screen
I forgot to take a photo of shade cloths we installed on the east side of the house. There are 2 small beds for pole beans or peas and the radiant heat and sun just bake the plants (and me). I've tried putting shade cloths on the outside trellis but still the plants just baked to death. In an ah-ha moment, I covered the tall window (cloth on the back of the inside trellis) to prevent the sun from hitting the house/window. What a difference in temperature it makes!

I liked this article that Has55 posted in another thread. https://extension.usu.edu/productionhort/files-ou/UsingShadeforFruitandVegetableProduction.pdf
This year, we expanded the shade cloth to 1/2 of the backyard. There's the original 16' x 12' area off of the patio, and the new 16' x 18' area. What a difference it makes in the overall comfort level.

Wowza!!! That's something to behold! What keeps it all from blowing away? Are they anchored on each end? Great job, Sanderson!

Yes, they are clipped to para-chord using binder clips. The next day, we had a storm front move in and a couple of sections were flappin' in the breeze. I know the correction, just have to do it. So far, though, the quality of the fruits has greatly improved with no sun scald, and no burnt leaves.

Re: Heat wave and shade screen
June 4, we put up the 75% shade cloth, over the whole garden! It was predicted that we would hit 106*F and I don't do heat any better than the plants. Note: In September, I soapy wash, dry and pin on labels for storage until the following summer.
