A few of my boxes are beginning their third year. The rest are beginning their second. I had to start over when moving to this house and the nice part is I can make improvements to what I have done in the past.

Boxes are 2" x 6" and 2" x 8" Douglas Fir. Most are 4' x 4' boxes with a few 2' x 4' boxes and 2' x 10' boxes for raspberries and blackberries (not in this photo). Around the birdbath are pots of mint - apple, chocolate, pineapple, spearmint. Rhubarb is growing in 2' x 2' boxes.

Pathways - straw over what was grass. Eventually I will plant groundcovers including creeping thyme.

Oh, so very nice and neat. And organized beautifully. My gardens look like they were put together by a mad woman using scrap. Come to think of it, they were. Square Foot Garden Photos - Utah Icon_biggrin

I am curious what you did with the grass. Did you dig it up? Use a grass killer? Just wear it out with mulch and walking?

I placed the boxes, filled them, then put thick layers of straw in between the boxes. I had done it before so I knew it would work. If I ever saw a piece of grass poking through I pulled it immediately.
