Accessory Storage
I know a lot of folk here use various things in their gardens like milk jugs, soda bottles, netting, etc.
How do you store it when not in use?

Re: Accessory Storage
I tend to use things that stack or nestle...then store in a little garden shack out back...or in the basement.

Re: Accessory Storage
Mine is all over my desk in the laundry room. Luckily it's a pretty big laundry room, but my husband recently told me he is sick of looking at my stuff all over the place. We are going to clean out a nook in the garage and he is going to "give" me that space for all my plant stuff. I'm pretty excited about it, because moving all that stuff out there will free up a lot of space inside!

My mother has fits about my 'mess' when she comes to stay for the summer. And she's been known to throw away my stuff. Like my 'manly' drill & bits disappeared last year.kamigh wrote: my husband recently told me he is sick of looking at my stuff all over the place.
Now all I have is my girly-girl drill and no bits.
I try to stack everything up neatly before she comes but there IS a lot. It's crazy. After 4 full years of gardening I'm realizing that I don't need so much and will probably start getting rid of it.

Re: Accessory Storage
Outdoors is a mess, but indoor storage is a little more civilized. My one cabinet in the garage:

Re: Accessory Storage
Shelves in the garage, shelves in the basement, shelves on the back porch, shelves on the front portch, shelves in the family room. I am currently reorganizing things and putting a lot of tall shelves in the basement storage area and hope to fit everything down there - all in one place. Except a shelf in the garage where I will keep things I use all the time (fertilizers, gloves, trellis ties, string, gardening shoes etc). I leave all of my larger tools (that SFGer's aren't supposed to need) such as pitchforks, hoe, shovel etc propped up against the compost bin. I have to replace the handles every few years but I don't have to lug them into and out of the garage every time I need something. Oh yea, the tall things like EMT poles, pvc hoops etc I put out along the edge of the woods and cover with camouflage tarps so they are not unsightly.

Re: Accessory Storage
Ugh, storage of garden stuff. Ugh. Seed trays that don't fit in any cabinet. Odd shaped things like pot makers, soil block makers. Seed starter mix. jugs that seem too tall to fit in a cabinet. Coils of drip line soaker hose. Drip line emitters, sprinkler heads, PVC. Small stuff crammed in a collection of Stack On Organizers. But so much doesn't fit.
Argh, stacks everywhere.
The best stuff is the tools. Hanging on pegs in the peg board or in the long handled tool rack.
Everything else is a mess.

Okay, so I'm not the only frustrated one here then....
I love the idea of using soda bottles & milk jugs as cloches, but just don't have space....

Re: Accessory Storage
Today was the day we put up the sun shades. I was so pleased with my new storage box for the sun shades. They were all washed, folded and labeled last fall. Sometimes I amaze myself. The blank space on the new tall shelves in my computer room is where the container was stored.
All clean and labeled!

Re: Accessory Storage
More storage.
The bedding straw for mulch and browns in the compost, and the alfalfa for the "greens" are bagged so I can actually lift a bag. The blue tarp will go over them. Some of the pre-cut, bagged and labeled PVC setups are partially visible leaning against the plywood hung on the fence. The plywood is used as flooring for the little 4'x4' mini-green house. I don't always set it up every winter, but the flooring, PVC frame and fittings and the pre-cut plastic are all stored for fast set up. Two (2) of the cement pans are also hung up on the fence.
Further down the side are the various leaf storage containers. Every thing is off the ground on boards and bricks.

Re: Accessory Storage
So organized, Sanders! My garages used to be the most organized spots in my house, but since I started SFG and a couple of paver patio projects, there is clutter and stuff EVERYWHERE! On my to-do list is to reorganize my tools and gardening stuff, and figure out a way to keep the seed starting stuff indoors. I had a hard time trudging through the snow drifts to get stuff out of my detached garage, and then everything was set up in the living room, with all the seed packets and books strewn across the pool table. Such a mess! It makes my ocd go into overdrive.

Notice I take the photos when I have finished organizing an area? Notice I didn't include a photo of the kitchen table with seeding stuff or the floor in front of the metal shelving??

Re: Accessory Storage
Years ago I made a separate shed for my wife. I added nice shelving, and it was immaculate. she always complained about having to move my stuff around to get to hers...guess what.? she never once used that shed I made for her...how can you figure that one ?kamigh wrote:Mine is all over my desk in the laundry room. I think we have a thread where we all got brave once and showed our organized chaos areas. I'd love to start it up again if we can find it. My garage is a nightmare... and so ripe for a photo op!
