Finially Starting

Yesterday was a nice day. I got all the beds not done last fall cleaned out and one 4x8 all charged up and ready for carrots, kale, spinach and lettuce. Snowing lightly today so I will finally start my indoor  regulars (peppers, toms, eggplant, herbs etc.). Probably a little late but had lots to do after returning home. One item was my cattle panel greenhouse. The wind had torn loose one whole side and I thought of replacing the two year old plastic. I had an idea. I replaced the plastic as best I could (not windy yet). Tacked with tape to piece together and it is covered again. I then took 2 ft. wide chicken wire ( old keep out fencing) and rolled it over. Stapled one side and then stepped on the wire on the other side to cinch it tightly and stapled the other side and cut the rest off. Did that in two locations about a foot in from each end and the greenhouse plastic is nice and tight. Winds came up over 20 mph yesterday afternoon and the plastic behaved wonderfully. When I replace the plastic next year I will put the wire over the plastic again, the sandwich effect really holds the plastic in check. My neighbor up the road has a PVC tube greenhouse that the plastic was totally destroyed. I think it might also work on hers to keep the plastic from flapping and then tearing.

I love this idea! My neighbor has a cold frame and they've put wire with plastic over it for the lid. It works great! The wire underneath keeps water from pooling up in the plastic.

A simple idea but sounds very effective. I will put it in my ideas file. I like simple ro KISS as it is known.
