Frost covers. Should I remove them? Empty Frost covers. Should I remove them?

Post  Lrose3271 5/10/2010, 12:18 pm

Hello

We made the dome style covers suggested in the book, poly and pvc pipe. Our question is should we remove the covers during the day? It is only 45 degrees out now, at noon. We are expecting more cold tonight.. There is condensation inside the tents and it seems slightly warmer inside than out. Will it hurt our plants to stay covered for the day?

Thanks

If the sun is out I would remove them or better yet just vent them somehow. I had one bed covering in March this year before I started planting and according to the gauge inside it got up to 120 one day when it was only 65 outside. If you can vent them you will allow it to be warmer than outside while keeping them from cooking.

I actually ended up doing just that . I stuck my hand inside it felt a bit warm and there was lots of condensation. They seem fine tonight, all tucked in for a 32 degree night...

Thanks for the advice Frost covers. Should I remove them? Icon_biggrin

I have my beds covered the exact same way. So far when I check them they are warm but not hot and my soil is staying moister. I covered them when I just had one little plant up because it has been getting cold at night still and we are forcasted to get snow again this week. Now all my plants are up and growing like crazy. I plan to leave mine covered through the week and this crazy weather. Good luck!
