These Black Cherries are fabulous!  Somewhat sweet, light tomato flavor, great for snacking.  For the past 3 yrs I've saved the sweetest and earliest ones for seed so that's pretty much all I get now.  Otherwise some could be bland like the originals, & sometimes I still come across one that is.  They do crack though when there's an abundance of water, which doesn't happen around my garden much. They have the earliest & latest fruits of all my tomatoes.  I'll be growing them every year.  I can save more seeds if anyone wants to try them.

Went apple picking at a neighbors tree this morning. Gave a bunch to another neighbor but there are still lots more on the tree.  I see apple crisp and apple sauce in my future, and will probably can some up for winter. 

What a beautiful day!  Back to shorts and tank top again!

CC, I grew a plant from some of those black cherry seeds you gave me but I think I got a dud. It was late in producing and then never ripened on me. I still have plenty of seeds, so I'll try again, but I was sooooo looking forward to trying them this year...the other variety that never ripened on me was "Ben's Ivory Pear".

The winner for early and productivity in the cherry tomato world was another new one for me: "Coyote", which produces masses of tiny yellow and very sweet little fruits. It's a humongous plant, and sprawls like crazy, though. I think next year I'll give it it's very own cattle panel arch and let it go bonkers.

Over-all it was a disappointing year for the tomatoes. They all took forever to ripen and then the late blight hit. I picked all the green fruit and took down the vines, but apparently the fruit were already infected even though they looked fine. Only just today I went though them all and salvaged what I could to make into sauce. The rest I dumped into a large garbage bag. When I was done, I could barely lift the bag. So I weighed it...40 pounds of blighted organic tomatoes.

WAAAAAAHH!!!!

Now I'm crossing my fingers that the potatoes will be OK. I cut all the potato vines that were still alive weekend before last and I read somewhere that as long as the blight didn't make it down into the roots, the potatoes might be spared if you don't disturb the soil and let the remaining spores die off for a couple of weeks before harvesting. It will let the skins toughen up, too.

Cross your fingers for me, folks. If I had to throw out 40 lbs from 17 squares of tomatoes, how many pounds of non-blighted potatoes do you think I'll get from 84 squares?

Molly, I've been hearing from all over the country that tomatoes just didn't do well this year.  For anyone!  Very strange...

Coyote tomatoes?  Do you have a pic?

Aw, that's too bad, Molly.  We had high hopes for them in your short cold season.  Yeah, I would try again.  If that fails then I guess they just don't want to perform in your neck of the woods.

Also, try the baby aspirin thing against the blight next year.  Forty lbs is a lot to have to get rid of...that had to hurt! 

I'm have PM on my greens outside the netted box.  Never had that happen to the greens before.  It's the weirdest thing.  Why outside the netting and not inside???  Do you guys know if I can wash it off and still eat the greens?  Does it wash off?  I know it disappears when you wash it but is it really gone?  Is it harmful to eat PM???

Don't eat the stuff with PM, the fungus won't hurt you, they are highly allergenic, so you could have a reaction to the fungus, spores, etc.

Hmmmm...  Thanks, Molly.  Will have to look at getting some.  Mike (DH) only likes tomatoes with little acid.  These sound perfect for salads & salsa.
