Uh oh - is something wrong with my tomato? Empty Uh oh - is something wrong with my tomato?

Houston, I think I may have a problem....but I don't really know so I thought I'd check with my fellow gardeners. The rest of my tomato plants seem to be doing pretty well, but this little guy has awfully splotchy leaves and is growing a lot slower than the rest. I'm wondering if it could be blight or some other bad thing and whether or not I should pull it out of the box before it infects my mix.

Sorry about the blurry shots - I've never been much of a photographer, but you can see the color discoloration I'm concerned about.

What say you, experts???

Thanks! Jenn

Uh oh - is something wrong with my tomato? Empty Tomato problem

Post  BertieFox 5/10/2010, 4:17 am

From the photo I'd say that it is merely suffering from a problem like lack of magnesium. Try spraying it with some liquid seaweed fertiliser or any other soluble fertiliser. It's extremely unlikely to be blight so early on, and if the other plants aren't affected.
If it was me, I'd be tempted to remove it and replace it with another healthier plant, as tomato plants are so quick from seed and cheap to buy anyway.
Having said that, I'm amazed every year when I grow far too many tomato plants how ones that have become pot bound in the greenhouse and look half dead when I transplant them, a month later have grown away into large healthy plants that do as well as the others.
