Pull out or snip off? Empty Pull out or snip off?

Hi Folks,

Planted some more beets a week back. I couldn't get just one seed in the hole. Now they are coming up. Two or there seedlings are vying for the same spot. Should I let them all grow or do I need to leave all but one to grow into maturity? And how to I remove them? Do I pull out the ones I don't want or simply snip them off with a scissor?

Thanks
Bart

Hi,

Definitely do some snipping with scissors cheers

The beet 'seed' is actually a pod containing several seeds, so even if you had managed 1 seed per spot, thinning is still usually necessary.

I'll wait till they're an inch or two high to snip off all but the healthiest looking seedling per spot.

I'd say snip the spares, once you are sure they're all viable. Mel's book says otherwise you mess up the root system.

Mel states there are 3 tools for SFG: trowel, pencil and scissors. The scissors are great for snipping duplicate seedlings.
