Hey All,
Last year for my birthday I bought myself a little gift and it was a drone-quad copter. Took it out for a few flights last year but it always seems in my business that when the weathers nice enough to fly I have something to do with my business.
But on June 3rd it was a nice day and I decided to make sure everything was charged up and went out for a play. Below are a few of the 90 pictures I took from above our place.
This one was taken from a 160' and shows the 'lower' part of our property and the garden areas. The garden area on the right is our main one and is fenced, the center triangle area has no fencing
This one is basically of the same area from a different direction and an old guy looking at the monitor while in flight.. On the right hand side, you can see our 'rec' area. A deck with a fire pit, swing lounge- just a place to unwind.
A little closer look
That aforementioned 'rec' area
Went up to 345' and took a shot looking East-Northeast towards Smethport Pa.
Then turned it around and shot looking West-Southwest towards Mount Jewett Pa. In both photos that's Us Route 6 that runs in front of our house.
An one last overhead look at the main garden.
Thanks for taking a look.
All the Best
Brad

Re: Arial Look
That's amazing. Great photos and wonderful gardens. I've been thinking about getting one of those copters but there always seems to be something else to purchase. One of my other hobbies is flight simulation but your real thing blows that away. SO like boffer said, "I want one".

Re: Arial Look
There is a new, arial camera called "Lily," I believe. From what I've seen, it's pretty incredible--but pricey.
Re: Arial Look
The Quad is a dji phantom 2 vision, easily googled and I bought one with an extra battery pack so I get about 45 minutes of flight time without recharging anything. I also spent extra for an air nice travel case.
You're cell phone attaches right to the controls and with a free app, you get FPV(First Person View) and can watch where you are headed. It also takes a pretty clear MP4 movie.
My dog hates it for the noise I guess, but I like the heck out of it.

You are really showing up the rest of us, Brad.
I would like one as well, as I would love to see what is over the hill that backs my property; too steep to climb, I have never been to the end of my land. I think it goes on forever.
Lovely, clear pictures, really gives us an idea of your set-up.

That's what I'm really pleased with, the clarity of the photos and the movies. The second thing I'm impressed with on the unit is the ease of operation. Turn everything on, let the satellites lock in your GPS and you are ready to go. If there's a problem, flip a switch and it automatically 'comes home to papa'.
A company I do work for has asked me to do sort of a 'roof reconnaissance' for them. I'd take the Quad to all of their stores(64) once a year and fly over and around them looking for any problems that you can't see from the ground. LOL, now I'm waiting for my insurance company to get back with me with a quote for the cost to add it to my liability policy. It's such a new thing that they are having trouble deciding 'how much'.
I looked up Castlegar and you are about five hours almost due North from where I was born and raised, a little town called Echo, Oregon. Just a short cruise down the Columbia river.
All the Best

Wow, that's so cool! I love your garden set up with a square and then the triangle. Will the next 1 be a circle?
Is anybody else as curious as I am to know what's over kelejan's hill?

Thx CC-
I'm curious as well!
Next garden plot for me is a 10' x 30" 'table-top' and was working on it 'til a little shower decided to pass over.

We know you are already designing one out of bedsprings and angle iron! Pull out that welder!boffer wrote:I want one!
Brad - Love the pics AND the toy! Glad you got to take it out for a pleasure flight instead of all work and no play. Now you have us all imagining what our gardens look like from above!

Re: Arial Look
I love my table tops and would recommend that everyone have at least one of them, whether for "clean" raw greens, herbs (make that one near the house) or small varieties of plants like peppers, eggplants or determinant tomatoes. All my beds are "raised off the ground" now, but the beds for tall things like climbing beans, peas, winter squash, cantaloup, cucumbers and indetermimants are only 5 1/' off the ground because they can get so tall.MackerelSky wrote:Next garden plot for me is a 10' x 30" 'table-top' and was working on it 'til a little shower decided to pass over.
