I live in a town that is very small. I mean not even one traffic light. It is 1 mile long from end to end, and it is a 'culdesac'  town. Have you ever heard the phrase, can't get there from here? That's the type of town I live in. You HAVE to go to the adjoining town to go anywhere. lol The only traffic jams we have here is when I have to wait for the deer or bear to cross the road.  My back yard is up against 60-70 miles of undefiled woods. I LOVE it here!!
I started gardening many years ago (row) but just couldn't keep up with the weeds while trying to raise my son. Then, years later I tried container (car wash bucket) gardens.  Everything was growing so well, and blight killed everything. I was so discouraged, I gave up for awhile. Then I saw a raised bed in a store. I bought 4 of them and stacked them two and two (Picture shown below) The following year I discovered square foot gardening and have been hooked ever since. I became a certified instructor in 2013 when I lived in Anaheim, CA. Because of my circumstances, I was unable to have a garden there. I came back home to PA and back to my gardens in 09-2013 and I'm stayin' here!  I look forward to chatting with everyone here and seeing all of the wonderful, creative gardens and garden ideas, and reading all of the topics here! Thank you so much for the warm welcome! Very Happy

glad you\'re here River  happy hi

from Kelejan :canada: in Canada.

River, what an unusual first name. I like it.

I once lived in a town with one traffic light and been here ever since.  The difference being that we now have about six of them but then we are not a cul de sac.

I do live in a cul de sac but here it is called a No Through Road as although French is our second language I have never heard it spoken here in British Columbia.

My home is within five walk minutes of the town centre but is backed up against the mountains and miles of forests so similar in some ways to yours.

Do you get animals crossing your garden? I have black bears, deer, an occasional coyote, raccoons, and no doubt many other small animals.

Anyway, River, welcome again and I can assure you that you are going to love it here.

Look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome River.  I am in your same boat.  I used to forget all my passwords and the like, until one of my wife's street smart friends clued me in on how us "elderly" folks could remember passwords easier.

Here's how she explained it.  You should obviously tailor it to your needs.

1. Pick your color and animal--such as blue cheetah and then use just the initials in capital letters--BC
2. Whatever your password is for, use the first 4 letters of that, so for this forum it would then be BCsqua
3. Next, add your street address, so if you live at 123 Main St., your password would then become BCsqua123
4. Finally, add two or three punctuation marks, such as $%& making your final password BCsqua123$%&

Since every password will now have the basic same format yet be different by the four undercase letters, you should have multiple strong passwords.

As for small towns, my wife takes the cake.  She grew up in tiny Connorsville, Wisconsin.  The city is one block in length.  There are no traffic lights, just a couple of stop signs.  The current population is about 85, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law being two.  There are two taverns in the town, representing the only business, and that business is only there because there is a casino 20 miles north, and Connorsville is on the way there from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Thank you, thank you everyone!

Mr Razed Bed, I find the easiest way for me to 'remember' passwords and such is to put them in my cell phone in a password protected app. As long as I remember the password to my phone, and the one for the app I am good to go. Yes, I put my login info for this forum in there now too lol. And, Connorsville sounds lovely!

Ms Atlanta Marie, thank you so much! I look forward to posting more pictures! Smile

Kelejan, I have all types of animals in my yard on a regular basis. I can't keep birdseed outside anymore  because a black bear came right up on my back porch next to my back door and took my 50 lb bag of birdseed to the end of the back yard, ripped the bag open, ate it all and then left me a present to clean up. I don't keep a bird feeder anymore either. I had to warn the neighbor who has little children that play in their back yard. I know she didn't believe me because a few months later she rushed to show me a picture of one that she captured on her cell phone in her backyard, and seemed totally shocked that there are black bear here. I had planted fruit trees and all but one were damaged so bad that only one survived, the plum tree. Evidently the leaves weren't tasty. We have a lot of deer here and they love sweet leaves. If they had just been patient, they would have had tons of apples to eat lol - I can't afford regular fencing so I'm looking into getting help and materials for making a wattle fence. I made PVC domes covered with bird netting to keep smaller critters out of my gardens. Here are two other gardens I have. I have two more identical ones that are empty. Trying to save enough money to make the Mel's Mix for them

Thank you! Hikes here are wonderful! Cool and breezy under the treetops and near the Youghiogheny River about 1/4 mile away from my house.

I made he beds out of composite decking. They don't leach any chemicals and last a long long time Smile Someday my son will inherit my home, that has been in my family since it was built in 1900, and my gardens, so I planned and built accordingly, and, I don't like to build the same thing twice lol

Welcome River from Florida!
This is a short trek from my house.
Of course I "live" more in a swamp, but everywhere has its own "beauty" if you know where to look.
Blessings!

Hiya Heartge01! Absolutely beautiful!
I spent my early childhood on St. Croix U.S.V.I. and them moved to Florida (Ft. Lauderdale) and lived there from 71 to 87 when I moved to PA where my family is from originally.
I spent many of days on the beach and in the ocean.
This is the first beach I remember on the island
