The heat

Post  Razed Bed on 5/7/2015, 5:59 pm

We hit 90 degrees for the first time today.  Who else was given this greens-damaging gift today?

Way up here in Ottawa, Canada we are currently around 25 Celsius (77 F) and are expected to hit 31 C (about 88 F) over the next two days.  In February we set record cold for the month and now we are getting crazy warm/hot days in early May. Seems like we did not get Spring this year. We've gone from -31C to +31C in just a few weeks.

It as warm enough today that I regretted not putting the soft top on my Jeep last weekend , and the Supermarket had the AC on this afternoon when I popped in. The forecast says cooler next week.

Been in the low to mid 80's for the last week or so here. Supposed to be back to average next week, and back into the mid 70's.

Hoping to get my seedlings hardened off next week and in the ground, as well as corn and melons. Soil is warm enough, but I'll have to be cautious and check the lows for the next week or so.

Re: The heat

When I left work this afternoon the Jeep's thermometer said 29°C, about 85°F, I stopped home long enough to take out the two front roof panels. I picked up  my grandson at school and we headed for the garden center south of town. We browsed a bit chased cats (mostly Sean) and picked up some marigolds and nicotania. We headed home, an hour after I had picked him up

I didn't notice the change until my grandson said he was cold. I checked the thermometer which said 15°C/59°F; I looked to my left over the lake and saw the black clouds heading for shore. That's when I remembered reading that this area is way overdue for a F5 tornado (the last one was 1985). The roof was still 20 km away, and every time I sped up Sean complained of being cold.

I made it just in time to put the second roof panel in as the rain started. One crash of thunder and no tornado, and a couple of hours later a real nice sunset. Just another rollercoaster weather day in beautiful Bruce County Very Happy
