Here's another one that is a tad smaller.
I don't understand on either of them why they have the 4x4 under the back. Seems like it would never be sat on because of the back.

That certainly is a creative bench!
However, I do have one question: how does one move the multi-block structures once they're cemented together? Not to mention removing the drop cloth.

Possibly to hold the very back brick (the one sticking up for the back brace) in place. I still don't think it is enough to hold the back in place but that seems to be why it has the 4 x 4 going thru the bottom hole of the back brick. The back four by four must be to hold the pillows on. There's no way you could lean back against it unless it we're up against a wall or railing or some other such support.
It looks like an accident waiting to happen out there in the open like that.
