Tomato rot - this photo may upset some...
Sorry, I didn't even want to photo this thing. I've got a Roma III hybrid that I planned to use for canning. They've been very slow to ripen, so I took a few that were blush and let them ripen in a paper bag. I've done that for years without a problem. I was about to start tossing the rip ones in a plastic bag to freeze for sauce and decided to cut the first in half to inspect.
I cut into a second, and it was fine, but the one above showed no signs of disease. No blemishes or cracks. Do I need to cut them all before freezing them?

I would do every one as well. Would be really upset to find one like that later.

Why...what would have caused that?
I guess I can make the sauce and then freeze it. That way I'm not freezing tomato halves that will end up mushie when they thaw.

If they're only going into sauce, what difference does it make if they're mushy?

I've never frozen tomatoes, so I'm not sure what the end result would be if I were to cut all the tomatoes from that plant before freezing.
What I'm trying to figure out is why that happened. I still have about 20 tomatoes on that plant in the ripening stage. Since there was nothing wrong with the appearance of the fruit, I don't know if it happened before or after I picked it.

did these tomatoes come off the plant that you have been having problems with? Perhaps it is anthracnose...

Hi, no, this is another plant - A Roma III. I cut open the two other tomatoes I picked and they were fine. Funny, last year I didn't pay attention to the soil. I got the local nursery to deliver some mixed compost and then fed with Fish fertilizer. No compost amendments or Tomato Tone... I had a much better year. This year, I use Coast of Maine Lobster compost to amend and then fed x2. Maybe a little too much love. Lessons learned for next year, in particular, have my soil tested and amend based on results. I'm wondering if I should add some manure before the winter. Also, making my own compost for next year.

Yeah, I found that page yesterday. The inside looks the same, but there was no mark on the outside, such as the bull's eye spot.
