I have 3 sources of compost -black cow, mushroom compost, lobster compost.
I have access to a mix of livestock manure, livestock bedding, & wood chips.
Can I use that as a fourth Source even though I have black cow.
As far as a fifth i m having trouble might just spend the money and by Dr Earth compost.
Any suggestings or advice?

It cannot be fresh and used in the Mel's mix. If it composted and aged then it is suitable as a source.MASFG wrote:I have 3 sources of compost -black cow, mushroom compost, lobster compost.

MASFG, I'm not sure where you live, CA? Ecoscrraps Compost at Home depot or maybe Lowes. Whole Foods sometimes carries compost of composted veggies.
As Camprn stated, the horse manure, bedding and wood chips need to be composted before using in the beds. At least you have a good start on building a compost pile! Add Starbuck's coffee pucks, kitchen trimmings, discarded veggies and fruits. Check out Compost topics in the search box.

Thank you!
I think it is composted but I will ask. I never thought to check Craig's list

MASFG, I am assuming you are actually in Massachusetts, is that correct?

When I first started, I only used 1 source of compost. I just didn't have the time to find others. So I used miraclegro the first year while I made my own compost. Now I just use my compost.

Re: 3 out of 5
I wonder how many folks, when they first started and were Newbies, used Miracle Grow to make up for the improper "compost" they used. Making a 5 source compost with at least one source a composted manure, is vital to SFG. That sure spurred me to get a compost pile going.
