Hello from So Cal

Post  ehaffner1 on 2/3/2014, 10:52 pm

Hi everyone,

This looks like a great program and site.  I am very excited about stepping out of my comfort zone to take the plunge into taking this Instructor Class.

I retired as an elementary school teacher and since have taken a liking to gardening.  I volunteer at a local Arboretum and also am assisting my church start a community garden.  I'm thinking that this Square Foot Gardening maybe the answer to getting our community garden up and running quickly.

Not sure what to expect, but I am hoping to become certified and be able to share my knowledge with both my church, community and where I volunteer.

Thanks all

I think it ideal for a community garden. You could offer classes to those renting plots. Understand that everyone might not buy in though. But seeing is believing so might as well show them what's what. Wink

Hi and welcome! How nice that you're planning to use your time to do for others.

Seeing is believing is about right when it comes to garden success, I believe. You can't argue with success, as they say. Because SFG can be pricey to start up -- even if you already have the beds made! -- people may need more convincing about it than they do about most gardening ideas. It's hard to leap on board an expensive idea without proof it works.

So get going as soon as you can! Smile And show us the pictures!

Don't forget to check out the archives. There's wonderful knowledge there, and sometimes you'll get it in a depth that starting up the same question all over again won't necessarily reach. Plus you may find not just ideas but pictures there that clarify so much more than any number of words can.
