Hi! :)
Hello from Saint Augustine, Florida!
I just recently finished the SFG book and I fell in love!
I'm very fortunate to be in Northern Florida so I could start planting right away. I have one 4'x4' box and I already have some tiny sprouts! I never thought gardening could be so exciting.
I'm so glad I found this forum as I already got some great tips from very helpful and nice people and got to see pictures of beautiful square foot gardens. Very inspiring!
Happy gardening,
Anna

Re: Hi! :)
Welcome!
I am also a beginner! I'm down in Spring Hill, FL which is a little North of Tampa...you are so lucky to live in St. Augustine! It is my favorite place in Florida and me and my girlfriend travel there several times a year...amazing food and sights...we just got back from our most recent visit last week...we went to Washington Oaks State Park...what an amazing beach they have there!
Good luck with your SFG! :-)

Re: Hi! :)
Thank you Brian! I do feel lucky to be here. I just moved here around a month ago. I still don't know the area well even though I lived in Jacksonville for a year before moving here. I will have to visit Washington Oaks State Park sometime! Did you find any shells?
Good luck with your SFG!!

Re: Hi! :)
Yes there was a good amount of shells there...the real reason to visit though is the beautiful rock formations on the beach...very rare in this part of the country...the only other place that I've seen anything like it is at a place called Blowing Rocks Preserve in Jupiter.
If you need some good places for food...
Back 40 Cafe
The Hyppo Cafe (best reuben I've ever had)
The Hyppo (gourmet popsicles)
Mojo BBQ (I believe they have this place in JAX as well)
Collage (Fine dining - awesome food)
Kookaburra (great coffee shop)
Gaufres and Goods (Polish/Greek restaurant...if you like pierogies, these are the best)
Cafe Alcazar (really awesome atmosphere and good food...get something with feta)
Enjoy the St. A!

Re: Hi! :)
anna and a belated welcome to you as well Brian.
All the best in your new endeavours. I still remember the excitement when I first started, and it is still the same each new season that begins in the spring here in british Columbia.

Oh I will have to go there for sure as soon as possible. It sounds amazing!BrianDorry55 wrote:Yes there was a good amount of shells there...the real reason to visit though is the beautiful rock formations on the beach...very rare in this part of the country...the only other place that I've seen anything like it is at a place called Blowing Rocks Preserve in Jupiter.

So funny you mentioned a Polish restaurant! I was born and raised in Poland and moved to US 6 years ago!
Thank you for the restaurant tips but I'm vegan and it's hard to find something to eat in most restaurants. I usually go to Manatee Cafe or Present Moment (100% raw vegan). There are a few more in this area and great one in downtown Jax- Dig Foods (if you feel like being adventurous and trying some awesome vegan food ). Oh and AMAZING vegan bakery called Sweet Theory also in Jax. They have best donuts and cupcakes I have ever tried- vegan or not.
I do have the popsicles you mentioned every time I'm downtown and my favorite is strawberry basil Good stuff!

Re: Hi! :)
Funny that you mention those places...I enjoy eating vegan but I make an exception when we're on vacation...I have Present Moment and Manatee Cafe on my list every time we go there and we never make it over!
That being said, you would probably be safe with the sauerkraut and mushroom pierogies and the delicious beet soup!
Also, the popsicle place I mentioned uses all natural ingredients and they have a mindblowing selection...they have a genius business plan going on in that place.

Re: Hi! :)
Oh I'm planning to go to the Polish restaurant for sure! I feel like I have to because I'm Polish I actually found out about this place couple weeks ago when I accidentally found a little Polish Deli and talked to the owner.
Have you been to Casa Maya? I just went there today and had an amazing burrito!
We also went to the popsicle place and I found out they discontinued my favorite flavor- strawberry basil...

Re: Hi! :)
Actually haven't been to Casa Maya...I walk past it about ten times every time we're there and it looks like a cool place but we just haven't stopped in so I'll have to put in on the list next time.
Did they discontinue strawberry basil or they just ran out of it? We had it when we were there a few weeks ago because it's also my girlfriend's favorite...that would be lunacy if they discontinued it.

Re: Hi! :)
Your girlfriend has a great taste They actually discontinued it around a month ago! Now they have just plain strawberry... lunacy indeed... They did add new flavors though. Pineapple-cilantro, plum-sangria and a couple more I don't remember.

Re: Hi! :)
The cafe location on tree boulevard has an absurd amount to choose from...I think I counted over 40 different flavors when we were there.

Re: Hi! :)
Oh, we went to the small one that has like 10 flavors. Maybe they still have the strawberry-basil at the Tree Boulevard... I hope!
