OMG! I've never seen one in real life. Where are his eyes? On the tippy ends of that white triangle head?

I got a good closeup of a praying mantis awhile back. This guy was on my green beans. I had the camera up very close, so I think he looks a bit annoyed -- ha!

Re: Here's a Praying Mantis Lookin' at You...
Many years ago when my 2 sons were in biology classes (both majored in it) they found one in our yard.
Being very inquisitive they made a terrarium that housed the mantis for a while .
The mantis would feed on insects that was deposited into the area, a most amazing creature it surely is.
Never have I seen such speed with their front arms grabbing a flying bug.
A couple of large bumble bees were added, they were watched very carefully and taken right out of the air, chewed and ate alive.
The mantis was released unharmed and seemed happy to have visited us.
No one believes the critters we have had when 2 sons were in school.

Strange indeed
These insects are indeed strange looking. My wife found one inside our place of worship the other day and she carried it to the outside grounds. I was very proud of her for doing that. She has a real "thing" about being squeemish when it comes to bugs.
Many years ago, my father and I were watching a documentary about insects. During that show, I learned that, after mating, the female mantis will rip off the head of the male. I'll leave you with that.

Good photos and interesting stories! Jimmy cee that sounds like you all learned so much with all the things your boys brought home. I never knew they were fast but that would make sense. I found an albino one in my garden and unless it had a relative, I saw it again a few months later.
Thanks Windmere
