Howdy from Southern Utah

Post  cricket on 9/19/2013, 2:09 pm

I am a farmer's daughter and have been growing organic vegetables for Farmer's Markets and a CSA since 1993.  Years ago when Mel's first book was printed I read it, and have enjoyed reading it several times since.  I recently purchased the new addition.  Even though I grow on a larger scale than square foot, I find many of the basics of square foot gardening can be applied to my farm because of the high volume of diverse crops I grow.  Come visit my little, sustainable farm at http://cricketsongfarm.blogspot.com .  I look forward to your thoughts, ideas and advice.

Hi Cricket.  It's nice to have you as a new addition to the forum.  My family eats organic foods from our DeKalb farmers market here in the Atlanta area.  I am giving SFG my first go and I love it!  It's nice to know exactly where your veggies and fruits came from.  Even with having been away for an extended period of time (with sporadic watering from friends and family... they did a heroic job!), I had very nice results.  I know that the SFG method helped a lot (that vermiculite is a wonder!!).

I think you will enjoy your time here.  By the way, you have a lovely blog.  I can tell you are very artsy (a nice quality to have!).

glad you\'re here

welcome  Cricket!  I visited your blogspot and got carried away reading, lol!  I didn't get a chance to read everything I wanted to but will go back and visit!  I like your article about growing potatoes and your photos showing what "chitting or greening potatoes" looks like.  I never knew what chitting was.  Your potato article would be great to add to any of the potato growing articles.  I think next year I will "chit" my potatoes before I plant them!  Thank you for sharing your experiences, I sure can use it!
