Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
We had a dinner of homemade bread, elk that my husband got and the rest was from our garden. Grilled zucchini, grilled crook neck squash, red leaf lettuce and grilled Georgia Sweet onions and sliced Georgia Sweets. I have to tell you, those onions will be on my list again next year, they are REALLY good!!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Decided to pick it, couldn't wait any longer... one bite, yum, two bites, yum, three bites-- what the what, I forgot the camera. RAN for the house and here you go.
A Straight 8 cucumber about 7" long and an inch around -- a YOUNG cuke, but I like the crunch more than the slime and seeds. This was perfect! Now I'm hunting under cucumber leaves, whispering, You're in here somewhere, I just know it!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Last night's dinner featured a salad containing arugula and part of an onion scape.
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I'm growing Straight Eights, and they are flowering and just starting to set some tiny fruit, so it's very exciting to see someone getting some good cukes!ETNRedClay wrote:Decided to pick it, couldn't wait any longer... one bite, yum, two bites, yum, three bites-- what the what, I forgot the camera. I picked some MORE peas, and snacked on them at work. Also picked about a pound of swiss chard (leaves were HUGE), and gave them to the executive kitchen at work. Also gave them the rest of my French Breakfast radishes.
I also nibbled on my nasturtium this morning, just for flavor.
But...this was my happy moment...my Dragon Tongue bean plants were all stunted right from the get-go. They're still like may 6-8" tall max, but at least they're not yellow and sickly-looking anymore.
Well, stunted or not, they are bound and determined to make beans, even if they only do one at a time!
Found it completely by surprise, so I picked it, and ate it today after the peas.

I thought so too!
Ended up making the soup, so good besides sauteed scapes and onions in butter and olive oil, also potatoes and white cannalini beans in a chicken broth base. After it's all cooked up, it goes into the blender and becomes creamy. Added fresh grated parmesan cheese a little salt and pepper. I don't even have the words to say how good it is. Been eating this all day long, it'll be gone by midnight.

I feasted on my first tomatoes earlier today. No pictures though (I was in a hurry). Green Zebra Cherries. They were yummy.

Another handful of Thomas Laxton peas for me this morning!
And silly me, here I thought the plants were about done.

Picked my first yellow squash and zuke today. Found a few cherry tomatoes hiding in the vines and picked another batch of green beans which are on the stove cooking.

My first surviving, though under-pollinated, zucchini and cucumber (plus snippets of this green and that green). Stir frying the zucchini and greens with a dash of salt.
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
beets, turnips, butternut squash, carrots and some dragon's tongue beans(not in pic...didn't want them to get soggy)! Dinner has been out of our garden every night for the past few nights. I'll have to post some pics of the huge turnips!! holy guacamole! Cucumbers are coming on too

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Harvest today. Rinsed everything, rubbed towel over cukes to de-prickle them first. Removed stems & seeds as needed. From left to right...
Swiss Chard - separated stems from leaves, diced both
Gypsy Peppers - diced
Snap Peas - diced
Summer Squash Crookneck - sliced in half
Japanese Cucumber - sliced
Sweet Banana Peppers - diced
Strawberries - capped
Straight 8 Cucumbers - diced
(not pictured, white onions & tops)
Hot: Sautéed onions, peppers & chard stems in butter. Added squash until one side browned, added chard leaves & fresh lemon oregano until wilted.
Cold: Drizzled diced onions, cukes & peas with creamy Italian dressing.
Sweet: Ate strawberries while I cooked.
Crunch: Whole wheat toast and EVOO with fresh rosemary.
Except for the butter, dressing. EVOO and bread, everything came out of my gardens.
Yum.
(Found a BUNCH of green beans late this afternoon I'll pick for tomorrow. Any suggestions?)

I do my green beans with everything listed except the lemon. I am going to have to try that!

Today I ate some more peas, a couple carrots, and walked around chewing on a giant chard leaf while I was checking the garden.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
For lunch, instead of making a little broccoli soup from a small head with leaves, it was easier to steam it, then pour a little melted fresh garlic scape butter with freshly grated parmesan cheese. Garden strawberries for dessert. Felt spoiled, like lunch for a princess.
