Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Today we dumped our last 2 potato buckets because one of our other potato buckets died (blight). We didn't want to loose these potatos too.
We picked a few green beans (they have been straggling in slowly) and a carrot today because the kids have been bugging me to see what the carrots looked like.

Unmadecastle - by the end of the weekend I may have that many green beans as well!
GG
PS: Love the potatoes - glad you were able to get these after losing the others to blight:flower:

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Tasty chicken in a white wine cream sauce. Used shallots, zucchini, sungold tomatoes, thyme, sage, and parsley from my garden to make it. The pasta was cooked in the same pan as the chicken and vegetables with white wine and chicken stock. The sauce was finished with cream and parmesan cheese. It doesn't look overly impressive, but it tasted amazing. . .
(What I really love about cooking with small tomatoes is that the skins just kind of fall off after a few minutes of cooking, leaving only the tasty interior !

We picked 2 cucs today! Seems like we waited for ever for them. They were really good. (Sorry, they didn't last long enough to get a picture.) We had cucumber & tomato salad for supper.

I learned my lesson from the spring planting (just barely) and will remember to stagger my snap peas for the fall. They were so tasty, I can't wait to have more!

Congratulations on your new frozen harvest! They will taste so wonderful as a side dish this winter. Plus the gratification of knowing you did it all: planted, tended, harvested, and put for future! Nonna

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Rose, if you think how much that would cost to buy organically this winter, you can tell others what a savings it can be. I remember the end of Jan/Feb red organic peppers were selling for $4.99 each. So, your not being overly protective of your hard earned veggies, your being sensible.
Congratulations on the harvest:D

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Our harvest has been small this year. Not sure why. We still have some peas and the purple podded pole beans are doing well. However, none of them actually make it into the house because my two boys gobble them right up!
I did make a tasty saute one night with rainbow chard, chives, the purple beans, and some garden herbs. I wish I was more of a cook!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I quite agree with your attitude about sharing harvest. So far I have not really grown enough even for me, a singleton, but I do share a little kale and chard with a friend who really, really, appreciates it.
Actually growing the stuff makes one appreciate all the work that goes into it and to have someone else just gobble it down without giving a thought does put one off a tad.
Today I have harvested potatoes, scarlet runner beans, kale and chard. I have no idea how much they cost in the supermarket but in this case, my veggies are priceless.
I will never buy an iceberg lettuce ever again.

Potatoes, swiss chard, last of the beets, a little green beans, carrot. First sfg tomato picked yesterday! So excited about that tomato that I'm not ready to eat it just yet, just taking pics of it and letting her ripen just a little more.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
My sungold tomato is producing well enough now that I'm eating some daily in a salad or some other application. I also like to add fresh herbs to my salad to liven up the taste of the store-bought lettuce. Today I added parsley and basil. Can't wait for my other tomatoes to grow and ripen - they were planted after the sungold, so I have a couple more weeks to wait I suspect.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
2 Roma Tomatoes and 1 early girl, I get about this many every other day. I now know why people plant 30 tomatoes, I need more!! 2 broccoli heads, which surprised me at how big they got. Our temps have been in the mid to upper 90's for about a week now and they didn't show any signs of bolting. I wanted to get them before they did though as the hot temps continue. I got a handful of pole beans, which I get about daily and have been enjoying in salads. And 2 dragon Tongue beans, which are puttering out. I should have already planted replacements but I'm hoping if I do that by tomorrow morning between the pole beans and new dragon tongues we'll have a steady crop.
QUESTION: I bought a head of lettuce from the farmers market and have no idea what it could be. It was so delicious, slightly sweet, juicy, crunchy, crunchy, crunchy, no bitterness, and crunchy. It had an amazing shelf life and was huge. It took us a little over a week to eat it, we were eating it daily! And it was just as good yesterday as when we bought it over a week ago. It was green on the bottom with dark red tops. It was very crunchy. The head was long and not round like iceberg. It's very hot hot hot here so it must be heat hardy. I'm embarrassed to ask the exact type because I want to grow it. (probably shouldn't be but it's their business to sell food). Any guesses as to what it might be?

Don't be embarassed, let the farmer/merchant know you enjoyed it and want to know what kind it is. It would be great to know what variety it is as it probably would grow well for you if they are truly local.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
In the past month we picked our carrots, some radishes, a few peppers and some new potatoes. Recently some cherry tomatoes and a few other tomatoes.
We are going to visit my grandson the end of this week and promised him I would bring him some cherry tomatoes - he absolutely loves them! They live in upstate NY in West Falls (1/2 hr from Buffalo) have 1 2x4 and 1 4x4 garden we put in for them. They aren't growing cherry tomatoes.
Anyway, we will be harvesting our fingerling potatoes hopefully tomorrow if it doesn't rain and will bring some to NY state.(crossing my fingers)
