This is so interesting. I was just checking on my pepper seedlings in the window and noticed these green 'bubbles': Tiny green bubbles in my cell pack? 100_5811

It's like some kind of alien eggs, like I saw on the bottom of the ocean once and no one knew what it was. Is it moss or could it be something else?

Should I pot them up early just to get them out of that stuff?

I don't know what that is. What was the medium? Reminds me of algae. Mystery of mysteries.

Yes, what did you plant the seeds into? Name brand, where did you get it?The seedlings look healthy enough. This is not the first time I have seen those. It may be little fertilizer pellets.

I planted all my seeds this year in used MM from the SFG. Algae makes sence. I usually water from the bottom but I may have watered this one from the top more than once because it was hard to reach the bottom, so I was being lazy.

I guess I'll go ahead and pot them up in some fresh MM. Unless you ladies think the algae is good food for them? hungry

The plants look fine, just wait to pot them up, and maybe water less. Very Happy

OK. I'll update this thread if something strange happens or anything dies. Otherwise we know we can leave it alone.

Just one more photo, just coz it's pretty and I think I might see some moss in there:Tiny green bubbles in my cell pack? 100_5813

By any chance did you sprinkle everything with cinnamon?
I did and noticed a lot of green appeared right after that, just wondering if there is a connection?

I have a theory that we are seeing more things like this in commercial seed mix, at least I am, because they are adding mychorrizia and other inoculates. Before it used to be that they advertized 'sterile' seed mix.

I have the same in all 3 of my cayanetta pepper plants.
Started in vermiculite, trans potted to potting soil.
I've kept them watered a bit...

Nope, not cinnamon. But for other seedlings packs I spritzed the soil with hydrogen peroxide before they sprouted. They didn't turn green. I don't know why I got so lazy with this one. Rolling Eyes

Definitely looks like algae to me! Like you see at the edges of still water. Might want to cut back on the amount you're watering them. Smile

I pulled out the cardboard markers today, replaced them with plastic.
After doing this I noticed white foamy like substance on the marker..I bet it is mold..

Slimy algae growths are my thoughts .
The plants being a wee bit too damp and the seed compost is rich in nutrients plus a bit of uncomposted material in it instead of being on the lean side .

As soon as it gets enough light & heat it grows slime like mad as well as gassing off soon as the temps rise , it's not good for the plants for it can turn even slimer if kept wet , then the rots and diseases arrive on the scene .

i'd used some peat on its own ... no composts or vermiculite and repot the plants in it ,then water them well on a clean tray .

Hygine ... also wash the planting lifting tool after each use to stop carrying problems form the old pots into the new ones etc.

Bung the old compost in the compost heap and sterilized the plant pots and tray with bleach .etc. rinse it well , let it dry off and reuse as needed .

If you need to feed the seedlings before you plant them out use some diluted tomato feed at the correct rate for the stage of growth of the plants.
