Thank you for the inspiration! This is exactly what has me looking up this forum and joining today! Very limited space on my urban farm here, hoping combining elevated SFG atop chicken runs will not only help me save space, but possibly cut back on slugs as well.
Planning on using pallets atop 4x4 legs as the base...but worried plywood, even with drainage holes, will hold too much water in my SC Alaska (Anchorage) climate. Suggestions?

Sounds like a good idea. Just keep a step ladder handy!
Oh, by the way, are you going to trim the wings of your chickens? My chickens would make short order of the garden, there wouldn't be any slugs left, nor any veggies.

Why would the top have to be so high? Chickens don't need coops that are tall.
You can use hardware wire for the bottom, lined with weed cloth. Do a search from the top left column for table tops to see various ways of constructing them.
I would question whether you would want the drainage to go in the coop. I think the chickens would need at least part of the coop to have a waterproof top.

I would expect the space beneath the bed to be more of an enclosed run area for the chickens as opposed to the actual coop. I might attach a weather proof run on the end in the winter...but summer they would be fine. I want it to be at least counter-height...not only for ease of working the garden but for ease of cleaning out the run when needed.

I'm sorry, guess I didn't catch that your chickens would be contained. I was really referring to the picture. Do slugs get in table top gardens?

Depending on the chicken breed, most chickens only need 24" of height, most tables approach 30"(so 24" + 6" of bed depth). I think my chickens are happier being able to fly around a little(if you call what chickens do flying), but under the bed doesn't need to be the chickens entire space either. However, very good stacking of functions there.

Hmmm too much water from upstairs ... ever though of making a hoop house on top of the hen house then water by hand ?????
I seem to recall that as a kid ....our 2,000 semi free range chooks ..they should be a minimum of 18 inches off the ground , when sat on their perches and the cock bird should be able to stand on the perch with a couple of inches head room .. but no need for him to have enough height to be able to crow ..he can do that on the ground .
