Iam new to the Forum. I just planted my SFG and their are little black bugs flying above it. I was wondering if they are harmful? if so what do I do? I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks

Hi Chris welcome to the site.
You'll get flies in any place where the eis decayed or decaying plant based materials it's normal but can be a pest sometimes .

See if you can get hold of a decent gardening hand book that not only covers growing crops but also shows which pest affects which crop and how to deal with it if needed . It's up to you whether you go fully organic or resort to chemicals .

This site uses Mel Barthomomew's book All new Square Foot gardenig 2006 edition for guidance and helping beginners tio get going .. Do you have a copy yet .....if not it's worth it's weight in gold as well as ensuring that we are all singing off the same song sheet.

On the home page in brown writing towards the top there is a clickable area for new gardeners & experienced gardeners in the square foot methods it is worth reading it to get a general outline of things.
