I don't know how our fore-mothers did it. My grandma had 6 children and fed the farm workers their mid day meal.

Re: Monthly Avatar: September, Show Off Your Garden Harvest!
This is the first year that my okra have ever produced enough to even make a meal. Yes, I am freezing the okra using different methods to test what works best - Cut then frozen; cut, breaded and frozen; frozen whole; blanched and frozen whole; using egg as breading binder; using buttermilk as breading binder; etc. Will have to figure out what is best.Scorpio Rising wrote:Do you freeze your okra, yolos?

Egad, how tall are those? My tallest, growing since March and not yielding anything is maybe 3 feet tall. Not using SFG, though. Maybe next year.yolos wrote:Having a superb okra harvest this season. Super tall okra plants.

Re: Monthly Avatar: September, Show Off Your Garden Harvest!
Here's my first full SFG harvested plant (planted 8/17). Yes, I know -- I was too impatient. I should have waited at least 30 days. But the top of the radish promised something bigger underneath.
Oh well, at least the top should be useful in stir fry.
In my defense, there was a zucchini leaf preventing me from getting a good view ;-)
So, any gardening tips on how to tell when a radish is really ready? Xray glasses, perhaps?
Thanks!

Congratulations!
Radishes push upwards and show their shoulders. Gently feel around the radish to feel the diameter.

Nice radish! Yeah, you can grope, but some of the shapes are harder than others! You will get the hang of it!
